I test drove the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with Comp G...

I expected the ride to be like any other Pontiac--ho-hum. Boy, was I suprised. The car was an absolute pleasure to drive. It feels nothing like the Grand Prixs of years past. And even the interior syling was visually appealing.

EDIT: Oh, and I love the red calipers. :p

What's comp g?

I usually try to stay away from pontiacs, as they are usually chick cars.

You call a blown 3800 Series motor a chick car? Someone doesn't know the potential of these motors.

Is calling something "chick" supposed to be an insult ?

Personally, I dig chicks.

Pontiacs are NOT chick cars. Maybe the Sunfire, but thats it. A Neon is a chick car. An Accord is a chick car. A Beetle is a chick car.

Anyone who calls Pontiacs (Trans Ams, Grand Ams, Grand Prixs, Bonnivilles) "chick" cars, has something wrong with them.

I test drove a Comp G a month ago, and I have been thinking about it since. Man, what a rush! I am waiting for some better deals (0% financing) to show up. I am also waiting to see if they are going to release a GXP version for the 2005 model. Either case, I can't wait to get one and fry me some rice. We have way too many of these POS cars with a Wing and Fart Can in my area. They need to be shown that they are all show, no go.

Considering that the GTO is almost here, wouldn't a GXP version of the Grand Prix create confusion for buyers?

I dunno if I'd call 280 ft/lbs on tap at like 3000RPM a "chick" car.

I'm still not sold on the styling. They look alright except for that body colored trim piece about 2/3 of the way up the door panel. Its way too high, they need to lower it to impala height or get rid of it all together.

The rumor amongst the GP forum is that for 2005 or 2006 they may drop in a V8 and/or make it RWD.

I'll believe it when I see it..
I really they would change the GP from fwd to rwd... plus I think the pricing on it is way too high... just because it got a high hp motor doesn't mean they can charge 30k for it.
I really think the ugly maxima is overpriced too... the new restyling should have lowered the price by 10k just for being that ugly.

I know the potential of them to burn oil at 80,000 miles. I know 3 people who have pontiacs. All three burn oil. 97, 98 and 2000 models. All between 60,000 - 100,000 miles.

Then you know 3 retards. 3800s are well known for being near bulletproof. If you take regular care of the motor, they last wayyyyyyyyyy beyond 200k.

Man I still miss my "plain" 97 GP GT. It had everything except the heads up display and the supercharger (of course that would have made it the GTP). Anyways, it was my favorite car, too bad I stupidly traded it in for a POS Ford Contour (and not even the SVT DOH!). Stupidist car thing I've ever done.

I got it up to 110mph on I95 coming back from Miami once. It had plenty of room to go but the limiter kicked in...

Not quite, it is produced in some Canadian plant that has the number one initial build quality in North America. Not sure how it ranks across all plants in the world, though.

For a coupe.

Is there not the possibiity of making a RWD V8 sports sedan for Pontiac? Anyhow, those 'rumors' have been floating around over at the GP forum for a while; however it is a known fact that the actual Pontiac guys do hang out on our forum (customer feedback I suppose), and the new GP styling was just a rumor, as well as the Grand Am change and the GTO. All of which proved factual.

The new GP is still on the same platform as the 97-2003; sure different blower, improved suspension and tranny, new interior and exterior trims.

Who knows, it may not happen; just fun to dream.
