I switched my car insurance today...

I have three speeding tickets within the last 5 years, two 1-10mph over, and one 25-35mph over, in addition to two accidents w/in the last 5 years, one at fault, one not at fault.

I was paying a little over $100/mo through Progressive for PLPD (one of the few companies who actually WOULD insure me!). I just switched to USAA and I'm paying $78/mo for full comprehensive and collision. I also signed up for renters insurance, which is $13/mo for $10,000 worth of coverage. It won't be long before I start my 401K or 254 with them!

Nice.. The lowest I have been paying lately is 65 bucks a month with drive through progressive. 359 for 6 months

I have not gotten any tickets (speeding etc) and the only thing keeping me from better rates is my credit. Some won't even insure me because of credit.

I have Homeowners, Life Insurance, and Auto Insurance through USAA. Great company. Hell, we did our auto loan for our Lexus through them also.

Try living in Ontario, I was paying 200/month for my 02 GSXR1000 and thats insanely cheap up here... most others with that bike are looking at almost double that.

I pay like $980 for 6 months for full coverage and covers if i hit someone in a car worth $100,000. Plus i think my renters insurance of upto $20,000?

20, had some ticket and a falsly reported incident to my record 3 and a half years ago. It took 3 years to clear it up and get my record fixed but didn't matter anyway since insurance resets after 3 years.

I had USAA for car insurance (and still have them for my car loan and renter's insurance) but they were like $250 higher than where I'm at now so I had to switch when I bought my new car. I didn't want to switch and if they're ever competitively priced, I'm definitely switching back. USAA is a great company and I really want to switch back but $500/year savings is hard to argue with.

Maybe next year when I turn 25. Don't they give breaks on insurance if you've got a good record and are that old?

When I first started driving:

In 2003: 1988 Chevrolet Corsica w/ 1 million liability only: $3200/yr w/ drivers ed and clean record
In 2004: 1991 Chevrolet Beretta w/ 1 million liability only: $1200/yr after insurance regulation from the government
In 2006: 2006 Pontiac Pursuit GT w/ 1 million liability, $1000 collision and $250 comprehensive deductable: $4100/yr
In 2006: Same car, moved to Saskatchewan $700 deductable for comprehensive and collision and $200k liability: $1414/yr

I just saved like 30% by switching to Geico from Progressive.
I have the same coverage, but it cost 400 les. ~1400 to 1024 w/ Geico for 6 months. I actaully saved like 250 dollars for having at least a B average in college.

It also helps that they just recent lowered rates in NY, as well.

no way, my record is similar to yours and i live in michigan. i will have to check those guys out. did you say anything special?

I had to give the Army six years of my time 😉 USAA is exclusive to servicemembers and their immediate family.

USAA is awesome. Their rates aren't the absolute lowest, but the customer service is top-notch...and to top it off they send you a rebate check every year.

that's what my boss was telling me! I can't wait.

I am working on a purchase appraisal for someones loan through USAA right now! So I guess they are taking your premium payments and loaning them out for a mortgage. I wonder what kind of rate the guy is getting? All I have is the address and purchase price on the appraisal order.

I pay $1200/yr... that's f*cking bullsh*t considering my one and only accident was in 2001 and I've never gotten a ticket.
