And bitching about it on an internet forum is any less dorky?

Some people get their rocks off watching baseball on TV. For 180 FSCKING GAMES WORTH OF A SEASON. I'd rather slam my junk in a sliding door than watch it. Or play D&D.

Baseball > D&D

Baseball players get laid...by women!

D&D players get laid by... ???

I wouldn't know...I don't play D&D

Believe it or not, there do exist women who find a sharp wit, creativity, and intellect to be almost as attractive as the ability to hit a ball with a stick and then scratch one's nuts.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.
Oh well. I guess its not hypocrisy if you're ignorant.

Sort of like all the happy little suburbanites who complain we need more gun control laws and should redue waste and recycle, then buy another one of their bloated soccer-mom SUV's.
I wonder if they know how many people are killed by such beasts every year or how much pollution those things spew.

I would say ignorance is bliss but the OP seems pretty mad. I'm sure when he's not wasting time here on ATOT the water engine project keeps him busy.

I am watching the Brewers right now. Talk about a waste of time. I watch about 80% of a bad baseball teams games. So go play D&D or watch baseball. Whatever floats your boat.

And I second vi_edit. What sort of boring a$$ life do you have when the best thing that you have to do is complain about friends using their imagination?

I've heard of D and D but don't know anything about it. I suppose people's hobbies are people's hobbies no matter what you think about them.

Dungeons and Dragons can be a ton of fun if you play with a good group of people, the stigma prevents a lot of people from trying it though. Ultimatelys it's just a big social game that 9/10 of the time ends in laughter and a general good time.

No kidding. You either have the satan worshipping goat slayers that the media made D&D players out to be in the 80's and early 90's. Or you have the "lightning bolt!" end of things that the internet made it out to be. And then you have the "I'm wearing boots of escaping!" skit on Reno 911 that doesn't help the hobby out either :)

For most D&D players, it's really no different than a group of guys getting together for a night of texas hold 'em. You sit around a table. You smoke cigarettes. You drink some beer. You shoot the sh!t. Instead of pulling cards from a deck, you throw dice.

I think id rather play star fleer battles, magic the gathering, or axis and allies instead.
Also, I could do without the smoking.

D&D is a pretty loose term for the act of doing pen & paper RPG's.

Dungeons and Dragons is just one of many of the concepts out there. There's Star Wars, Shadow Run, Superheros, Vampire'esqe genres, ect.

There's a type for just about any interest.

It can be fun, IF you have the right people. I've tried (and quite) 3 groups:

1. Great GM, adults were pretty good, children were way, way irritating. This was in a game store, so the owner pretty much forced us to let people play whether we wanted to or not. This caused the group to be about 10-12 people in size. On average. Do you know what it's like to basically accomplish nothing every week (literally, we almost never left town) because the players were so incompetent? I do.
2. Community Role-playing Theater - I like my games more than hack-and-slash, but not writing extensive backgrounds about his child-hood terrors and that he doesn't like cheese, thanks. Group and DM sucked.
3. Decent stories and ideas, but DM, as a whole, sucked. I tried to do a certain character type, got bashed on by him. Alignment? Bashed on. Got accused of "not contributing to the group" because my character wasn't part of a order of monks like the other 8 out of 10 characters. Players were okay, except for a guy who (literally) would start going on and on about his third level barbarian who fought in hell, and got the boots of... (not a realy example, but he did that ALL THE TIME. Non-stop. Yes, he was the walking incarnation of the worst nerd-stereotypes in the public consiousness). Again, group was big 10-12 people. Trying to keep relatively quiet to keep the game from slowing down to molasses because everyone was trying to talk at once was one of the things that I got ripped on for "not-contributing to the group." Whatever, dude. Also didn't help that the used 3rd edition - not into a game that's streamlined for power-gaming and that's all about stats.

So out of 3 groups, I've had a good DM and players... but out of 2 separate groups. Without BOTH, the games sucked. I may look for another group eventually, but it's put me off really trying to make an effort.

D&D would be nice, except that involves other people. And that just isn't going to happen with me.

Nethack will suffice.

EDIT: And I probably suck at RPing too.
