I have a couple shirts I rarely wash mostly because I don't sweat in them...or didn't use to.

First.....seriously? You really think you can wear shirts more than once and not have them get funky smelling? FYI....not all body odor is just from armpit sweat. You do realize that you skin constantly sheds dead cells....all over. So you get that mixed with the oils from all over your body, not just from your pits, and you start brewing up a nice stinkfest....esp. when you consider your shirts are picking up smells from the environment, too.

Second, antiperspirant, not just a deodorant. Deodorants are just perfume for your pits, and by half way through the day all you've created is a perfume mixed with armpit funk.

Third, are you washing your hair daily? Be surprised by the numbers of people who don't. But think about this.....your scalp is as oily as your face, if not worse. And your hair acts like a filter, catching anything and everything its exposed to in the air....sort of like the filters on your computer or car. Your hair is not the smooth shit commercials like to make you think it is, but is instead very rough surfaced and will catch anything that blows through it or it comes in contact with.

Fourth, if the BO persists after you start a more stringent personal hygiene routine, you may want to see your M.D. While ketosis, as mentioned before, manifests itself initially as bad breath, long term it indeed becomes noticeable as body odor, too. There are also other physical ailments that can manifest themselves as body odors, such as liver problems, kidney problems, etc. If changes in diet and personal hygiene don't help, it may be time to seek a professional medical opinion.

if you wear an undershirt you can easily wear shirts twice without them stinking

I had an employee that was smelling bad for weeks. I had discussions with him because I was receiving complaints from other departments. He went to the doctor, rewashed all of his clothes and started showering twice a day. Nothing was working. Come to find out, his washing machine was growing mold in it and it was making his clothes smell bad. He lived in an apartment that had machines in each unit. Guess it wasn't draining properly.

Your parents did a bad job.
Use antiperspirant and deodorant mix as 99% of society.

Also, wash all of your clothes after each wearing!!!
There are exceptions, but you clearly are not able to make that distinction.

If it's recent, then it definitely has to do with what you are eating. Use deodrants and anti-perspirants please. In this day and age, you cannot afford to go a day without them.

Clearly if it's when you sweat then it's what you're eating.

Just like the stereotype holds somewhat true that Indians and Mexicans can have a smell, it's because of what they eat that produces odor when they sweat.

Hell I've smelled it on myself when I eat a curry heavy meal or a lot of spicy foods. It's just how it works.

Eat less spicy foods.

did you recently get a front load washer? I have to run an empty cycle of wash with bleach or my clothes will smell moldy if I leave them in after awhile.

Tbh with you guys, I think the laundry is a good call. I have a couple shirts I rarely wash mostly because I don't sweat in them...or didn't use to.

.....

The 'smell' comments are less co-workers and more housemates. Also, more targeted to body odor.

Gross. D:

Just because you don't produce enough sweat to make your shirts "wet", doesn't mean that you aren't perspiring into them. The moisture, oils, and dead skin cells coming off your skin lets various bacteria and fungi thrive, and every time you put those shirts back on you're just feeding them more.

Wash ALL your clothes, extra soap and extra rinse, and add vinegar to the rinse cycle (instead of fabric softener) to disinfect. And time to buy new towels.

LOL. Yeah... people only use their towel once after showering, and throw it in the hamper? Goddamn. I honestly don't know anyone who does that. I don't even do it at motels cause it's a waste of water to re-wash it.

But I don't see the problem of wearing a regular white t-shirt under a polo shirt and throwing the t-shirt in the hamper at the end of the day and not the polo and just hanging that up. This of course depends on several factors, but in general I don't think that's gross.

Ugh nasty. We try to "clean" our washing machine every few months with bleach and then vinegar (I think.)

Hormones change and you don't smell your own stink before others do. When you finally smell yourself, you're already way too bad.

Wash your clothes and use SOME sort of antiperspirant and deodorant

One recommendation is to try Clorets gum. As odd as it sounds, it MAY help with body odors that aren't from being an unwashed hippie. A good friend had the nastiest smelling feet imaginable. He could clear a room by removing his shoes. His doctor told him to try Clorets gum...within a week, the problem went away.
I realize this isn't the kind of evidence backed by years of studies...but at least in that one case, it seems to have worked. It's always worth a try. (whacha got to lose?)

"Waste" a cup of water, or dry yourself with a dirty towel? The correct answer is obvious to me, especially given the value of a cup of water (0).

Yeah it ain't a TON of waste but if everyone did it, to me that is wasteful. To me the towel is not dirty after stepping out of the shower since you are clean, and I hang it up so it dries. I and my family have done this since I've been born, and no one has ever said we smell. To each his own I suppose.

I agree. The whole "use a towel only once" thing is absurd. You're clean when you dry off, let the towel dry out. No problems.

(quoted wrong person 🙂 )If you're clean coming out, how is the towel "dirty"? It's just water. Using a towel more than once is very acceptable. If it's crusty or mildewy, you're doing it wrong.
