I should not be seeing cars crossing in front of me two seconds after my light turns green.

Oh yea, I know it's everywhere. But cuz I'm in SD, I'm complaining (or ranting) specifically about this area.

The potholes here are bad, too.

If you haven't gone when the light turns green your making it so folks behind you are likely going to have to run the light because you held them up. (Playing Devils Advocate).

Mira Mesa.

I used to have that problem at Camino Ruiz and Mira Mesa Blvd (I lived in the area). Drivers are idiots.

I probably would've gotten hit today if I didn't hesitate. I saw the lights and had to look at it twice before I went...and then I saw a car cross me.

And another incident... I was probably going 50MPH and the light in front of me turned green, so I never had to slow down... and then I saw a car cross me...

Just a few months ago, a motorcyclist got killed because a teacher ran a red light because he was late for work.

WTF? This shouldn't be happening at all.

This only happens rarely in the area that I live in.

it happens ALL the time here in atlanta (specifically barrett parkway in kennesaw).

I actually pay attention.. and when they light turns yellow I pop the clutch out a bit (making my car jump forward) right as THEIR light turns red (like I'm entering the intersection) and more than once I've scared the sh!t out of some dumbarse women on a cellphone in her volvo who is running the redlight to pick up her redheaded annoying little brat of a kid

that teacher probably made the claim "he just didn't see him" and got off with a ticket.

People who hit motorcycles because of their own goddam negligence should have their licenses revoked permanently.. and forced to ride the bus.

I guess you haven't driven in Tucson lately.

I used to wonder how it was that I could be six cars back in a line of traffic and not make it through in a single cycle. Then I took the defensive driving class. They introduced the 'three second rule' by which you are supposed to sit there for 3 seconds after you get a green. No wonder I spend so much time sitting in traffic!

You know I have seen many people doing this as of late. It's very scary, I'll be driving and I'll have had the green light for say almost 20 seconds now and I see this car just zooming it through the red light with no regard of ANYONE else that has the right of way. Like I said, it's very scary. These type of broadsided accidents are very dangerous.

What do you mean it rarely happends. You live in Toronto don't you? I always encounter at least 2 or 3 red light runners every day during my commute. And this is still with all the red light camera that we have located around the Toronto area.

In places without a left turn signal (Read: Chicago) the only chance left turners have to clear the intersection is after oncoming traffic has stopped for the red light. If two left turners are in the intersection when the light turns yellow and oncoming traffic doesn't stop until the light is red, they are still in the intersection when the light turns green going the other way. It can take then 2-3 seconds to clear the intersection. Even though they have the green those people have to wait.

Sometimes you just have to deal with other people on the road.

You haven't seen potholes until you've lived in NY. Potholes are nothing here in San Diego.

I'm usually on my bike, so I just store up a nice gooey loogie for the windshield of anyone who flagrantly runs the light I'm waiting on. :D

That's a different situation though. The guys I'm talking about are the ones who run the red, not the ones who are already in the intersection when the light turns red.

This happens in all cities, smaller towns and less-congested areas it's less of a problem. Got to watch out for it if you're prone to jump out there as soon as it goes green.

It's stupid when you think about it, they're all just shifting the cycles of traffic flow back a little, not extending them. The traffic going in one direction is running the light and cutting a couple sec off the green light for the next group, who proceed to run their light, cutting off a couple sec for the next group, etc.

LOL. I was just about to say that. I just got back from NY and yeah, the potholes here are pleasant compared to the ones over there. I learned my lesson while riding in the backseat and resting my head on the back rest...*boom* we hit a pothole and my neck violently snaps up back and forth. For the rest of the ride, I sat up straight.

But anyway, report your pothole and get it fixed.
