I think of this thread anytime I pick up a beer when I'm away from home. I'm not binge prone, but I'll never be that "one too many" guy either.

Man, it's tough to read through this thread again.

I'm going to share this link with my son though. He will be driving soon and going off to college and it is important for him to realize the possible consequences of the decisions he makes and I’d hate to see something like this happen to him. If nothing else it may prevent something like this happening to others.

Reading this thread again makes me so thankful that all the selfish things I did when I was younger never hurt anyone else. It also reminds me, along with recent threads, no one is guaranteed a set amount of time.

Live your life, experience new things, and try to leave things (and people) better than you found them.

I was pming with a mod about the number/names of members and mods that have passed.
Melancholy, I know. But I got to nine names off the top of my head and acemcmac was one of them.

I figured it was time to bump this thread.
It's been almost 16 years since he passed.

It's weird. I never had any interaction with acemcmac. Back then i only rarely looked at OT but i do remember reading this thread shortly after it happened.
I'm not much of a 'watching the sunrise' person as i'm usually on my way to work or sleeping. But i do sometimes think of him when i see a nice sunset though.

I do wonder how people who kill others drunk live with themselves. It's one thing when it's a freak accident, it's shitty, and you keep telling yourself you could have done this or that but at the end you kind of know it was an accident. But drunk driving, there's just no excuse. A cab ride could have prevented all that.

Not everyone actually feels guilt for certain things.

A former literal next-door neighbor who was a tenant was a drunk driver who killed a cyclist on a country road. As normal in the system, he got out way earlier than his "official" sentence. Eight years? Well, I think he first introudced himself in 2016 or something, and that's definitely less than 8 years after 2011.

The story was featured in a local paper, but I cannot find the source anymore. Touchy feely forgiveness such that the victims and the drunk driver walked out of the courtroom together in harmony.
