I saw Cloverfield last night.

It's an excellent monster movie. An interesting monster, with the interest heightened by mystery. I hope they make a sequel. One thing I was kind of curious about is the resilience of the monster. They show some pretty intensive weaponry being deployed against it, including a strip of bombs from a Stealth aircraft, and the monster seems unfazed. Does this mean it's mystical or something?

I liked it a lot.

re:resilience: All giant monsters generally have this in movies.

Yeah, it is annoying, but I guess they were forced into it by the choice of telling the story that way. I read last night that if they go ahead with a sequel, it will almost certainly NOT be shot that way, as it would no longer be fresh.

I don't know how anyone could not like this movie.

Same here. It's solid entertainment and puts you right in the middle of the action.

I hope they make a sequel.

With all the viral sites out there continuing the backstory and further developing the reel world, I think a sequel is inevitable. Check the movie's IMDb Message Board to find all the links.

I liked it a lot. The shakey-cam really helped give the movie a feel of authenticity for me.

1. Shaky cam was overdone and made me feel sick.
2. Characters were so ******** annoying. I wanted them to die by 45 minutes in.

Shaky cam made it really hard to watch, just because I couldn't keep up with what they were doing.

Yeah I especially wanted the annoying camera man to die. How many unfunny things can one person say in an hour and a half.

Because using a shaky-cam doesn't mean it's artistic, and they've made Godzilla before?

I liked the movie but it wasn't great or anything. Too slow to develop in the beginning, the characters were weak, and there wasn't enough up close time with the monster so it wasn't very intense at all.

It was a solid movie, nothing spectacular for me. I'd see the sequel if they made one. My wife did get sick mid way through.

I thought it was awesome as well. The camerawork was shaky but it didn't bother me, and it was sort of neat cause it put you into the action and with the characters.

Plus... Beth. So hot.

the characters, acting and writing were bad. not sure why anyone would give Cloverfield anything more than a 'meh' rating.

agreed

I absolutely loved the movie for what it is, an American giant monster movie in the vain of Godzilla with a slight twist... but we don't need new threads. The main thread that comes up in a search works. :)

The intensity came more from the military, I think, and from the reaction to the initial explosion.

I agree that the characters were weak, and that it just wasn't possible to build up any kind of empathy toward them.

For fun, try watching this movie with the RiffTrax soundtrack.

I watched it last night. Even after reading all of the spoiler sites, seeing pictures of the monster, etc, I thought this movie was really done well. I didn't even notice the shaky camera because I was too engrossed in the movie. I loved all of it, from the slow intro to the running through the streets to get Beth--All of it.

I cant wait to see a sequel!
