I don't think it's a good idea to lose market share but your comments about Android taking away sales from the iPhone seems a little off when iPhone sales have actually increased. Now, I'm not saying that some who would have bought an iPhone hasn't bought an Android phone instead. I'm just saying that the people who promote doom and gloom for Apple because of the lost market shae percentage are not looking at all angles.
I do think that it was inevitable that Apple would lose share percentage as more and more people move from dumb phones to smart phones.
Really? False? Care to explain why or is it because you said so?
IMO the cell market is heading for a major crash. Verizon has had 5 major Android smartphone releases in less than a year and with each release they stop research on the last release. I am still waiting for froyo on my droid. I already rooted and installed it but other droids are still waiting. I am also waiting for my Behold 2 to get the 1.6 update even tho we were promised 2.x by now but no, support for the BH2 has completely dropped months ago. Even tho I hate apple douche products at least we only get 1 phone per year, oh, wait, att keeps coming out with a phone a week also......Really guys, the cell phone market needs to crash so we can get better, more stable products.
It's not going to matter when Gingerbread comes along and then you can bypass your carrier/manufacturer and just get updates directly from google.
The Verizon iPhone will change things, but not entirely in the way Apple fans might expect.
Without carrier exclusivity, the iPhone becomes a commodity. Just another phone that neither carrier has the incentive to protect and push. Apple certainly isn't going to get anything like the "we get all the data money" deal from Verizon that they did from AT&T -- and AT&T won't be giving it to them any more either after Apple breaks exclusivity.
If sales go up and profits per unit go down... isn't that the strategy that all the fans were praising Apple for avoiding?
There will be an initial spike in iPhone sales, but going dual-carrier means the beginning of competition, not the end. Great for customers, less great for the companies. But that's something we should all like... right?
Holy crap guys. Its true. I just went down to the Verizon store, sure enough ... I am now the proud owner of a Verizon iPhone. Guarenteed not photochopped.

I haven't seen him since. He travels a lot. Although I have not forgotten that I'm supposed to dial *611 and see if it goes to VZ customer service.
