Take it for what it is...my friend who is a consultant has an iPhone 4 that had the Verizon label on the top part of the screen (not a print on the phone, but on the top bar where it has the bar and says ATT 3G, instead it said Verizon). At first my reaction was that he jailbroke it and it was some skin, but he wouldn't let me take a picture of it and put it away. He claimed he was testing it but offered no details.

You couldn't have just bumped one of the gazillion other "iPhone 4 on Verizon" threads?

Oh wait...so it was just the PLMN label? You can make that say whatever you want. I can cloan ATT on my myTouch if I wanted to.

No, just stop it. I'm sick of a new one of these threads every fucking week. We all know it's coming, it's just a matter of when. Until it's on Verizon or Apples webpage it's just bullshit.

It would not be surprising. Apple needs verizon more than verizon needs apple.

Apple's setting profit records currently, why exactly do they need Verizon again?? Sure it would be nice, but without Verizon Apple will stay making billions of dollars. I don't think Apple needs anything right now, what they're currently doing is working just fine for them.

Right now they are doing fine. But it looks like you are missing the tidal wave of android devices that is absolutely going to bury the iphone and apple back to niche market if they are not careful.

Apple made $3.25 bilions last qtr.
Verizon lost $198 millions last qtr.

Thats such a ridiculous statement I dont know where to begin.
Its not like Apple couldnt go to Sprint and Tmobile.

You can JB a iPhone and change the carrier name. For example, I could JB my iPhone and instead of listing the carrier as ATT, I could list it as Akugami, or my real name, or something vulgar and snarky like STFU. I'd take such visual evidence with a grain of salt unless you can confirm for us that it is indeed on Verizon by taking the phone and dialing *611 on it for customer service.

I'm not saying that Android isn't beating the iPhone in sales at the moment but there's nothing to suggest that the iPhone can't take a sizable chunk of the market. Look at RIM and their Blackberry. No one is signalling the same doom and gloom with them even though they are a single carrier with an OS that isn't licensed to anyone else. Granted they have more models of their phones and their phones are available on pretty much every carrier. The thing is that the iPhone will go to other carriers. It's a matter of sooner or later rather than if. You'd be crazy to think the iPhone won't get a boost in sales when that happens.

Sticking with ATT only leaves about 200M possible customers off the table for apple. Apple needs to be on all the carriers in the US if it hopes to survive the android tidal wave.

And as near as I can tell verizon did not lose money last qtr.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/verizon-profit-falls-75-on-health-expense-2010-04-22

And it appears the drop in profits is closely related to that required charge.

I think it will boost sales if the iphone goes to other carriers in the US. I am not sure it will be as large as many people think it will be. The agreement has been in place long enough to attract the apple loyalist to att and the android phones are very competitive now.

Maybe if you post an article thats not dated Apr 22 then you would know that Verizon lost $198 miilions.

from your article.

but if you were to exclude "special charges" for a workforce reduction, Verizon as a whole would've seen net profits of $0.58 per share. When focusing strictly on mobile, Verizon Wireless managed to pick up 1.4 million net customer additions, which is 200,000 shy of the 1.6 million that AT&T recently picked up.

Does not appear that different from what I posted.

My understanding is that the loss is mostly due to one-time-payments for health care and buyouts. It still wouldn't have been as much as Apple, but it wouldn't have been a loss either. Either way, both companies would benefits. Apple doubles their market and Verizon gets the iphone.

They do not want to get stagnant with AT&T. It's pretty clear they aren't entirely happy with them, and in order to expand in the future, they need to reach more carriers, simple as that.

Set the stage, get Verizon on board, have #1 and #2 US carriers... launch the real iPhone '4G' and call in record breaking numbers to tout.

Look at the last part of your statement....who says Verizon needs the iPhone?

Verizon doesn't need it, but you have to imagine that they want it. Who wouldn't want the iPhone on their network? Apple handles the marketing, everyone already knows what it is, and you have imagine that Verizon gets plenty of requests for it.

Do I think they want it? Heck yeah!

Do I think they want to deal with Apple? Not likely. Look at every store that sells Mac stuff. They have to have dedicated departments, specialized sales people, specialized support procedures. That's a ton of overhead plus whatever other demands Apple has.

Like I've said...I look forward to the day when a customer can walk into a cell phone shop and be given an honest feature and benefit comparison between the iPhone and a (not stripped down *cough*Aria*cough) Android phone. I just don't think Apple will ever let that happen.

we've been pinged by verizon and given some clarification to the awful mess known as filing quarterly reports in accordance with gaap with varying shares of ownership. We also learned that verizon wireless added 665,000 new net wireless customers under contract in the prior quarter, whereas at&t added 496,000 contract customers. It's pretty easy to make these numbers say whatever you want them to, apparently.

I wonder iPhone for VZW will have a better antenna reception? And if there is no more iPhone 5 for ATT next June 2011?
