Won't do them any good, I will be in another state. Not to mention that I purged my cell phone number from their records, and only one of my co-workers has it.

I do take time off, I have taken twenty or more days in the last year, not counting sick days which accrue in a separate account. I tend to combine it with stuff like the two days off for Independence Day, so two days off plus three vacation days and two weekends gets me nine days off total.

I can cash it out if I quit, or transfer to a different job for the same employer that has a different vacation plan. I try to keep my balance high for when I finally leave my job. As it is, I could make every other weekend a three day weekend, and I would still be slowly building up vacation time.

You could take every Monday off for the next few months. 3 day weekends FTW!

I blow all of mine every year. I don't live to work, I work so I can go out and enjoy myself.

I'll never understand why people hoard vacation hours. My old company had a 3 year plan to cut back on the amount you can accumulate - 500 hours to 400 to 300 - by 2010, because people had so much. That's crazy....I like my job and all, but seriously...take some time off now and then.
Some of us work in dangerous environments and need the extra time to supplement sick leave/disability for long term recoveries.
Disability only pays .66% of your salary. I can use vacation time to make up the difference and get 100% of my salary.

Not trying to derail the thread, but what line of work are you in that would require this?

My phone rings at 9:01 every day I'm on vacation, and it's someone from the office with a stupid computer problem.

Thats not a vacation
Turn the phone OFF and/or tell them (the higher ups) that when you're out on vacation it means VACATION and you are ONLY to be reached for CRITICAL situations.

Seems a lot of you people have shitty jobs, shitty ideas of "vacations" or feel that you don't deserve time off and they can't live without you.

Sorry I live to live life not to work.

Cause then you can take a full month off. :D

Some of my favorite times back when I had a full-time job were the vacation days - nothing beats getting paid to sit at home and do nothing. :)

The people that slave over their jobs in the office are the ones that get promoted and then frown on others not staying in the office until midnight and using vacation time.

Better than the letter we got.....
The new Corporate Overlord has canceled all sick , comp, and vacation pay. Any time not cashed out will be held until your final payday, whenever that may be.

Thanks.
I appreciate that.
I hope I can return the dedication to my well being.

On a different vacation, my boss's boss told me to board a plane and fly to Japan, leaving my wife stuck with our truck and boat nearly 500 miles from home. What's the point of taking a vacation anymore? Might as well just stay in the office.
Let me guess, this same company likes to say they "treat their employees like family", right?

Nice.... Hate to be a blood relative.... That term "blood" might be literal.

hahah, wow, keep thinking that way.

You can work hard and still use your vacation time. If you (the general 'you', not you specifically) look down on someone for using their accrued vacation time....uh....you've got issues. And if you were my boss, I'd find another job.

Get out, get out man! Most companies in the auto industry aren't like that!
