You really need poll options for the non-partisan among us. Many aren't D's or R's. That being said I miss his movies far more than I miss his politics, and his movies sucked. Still, better him than Georgie...but not by much.

These are just some of the communists that were taking over central America at the time. With documented support from the USSR. And they were no less brutal than the Contras we supported.
You can keep believing revisionist bullsh!t history, or you can become objective and actually educate yourself. The choice is yours.
Simply put, it was a lessor of two evils situation. The only alternative was US occupations to stop the communist expansion into the Americas.
Which is why the people of Nicaragua just re-elected Daniel Ortega I suppose? Reagan's policies have been rejected by the people they were inflicted upon. The Contras were mercenary thugs, rapists, and murderers, and nothing more (unless you want to throw drug trafficing in there , but that isn't much of a sin compared to their other activities). Your list of alternatives is rather uninspired. You left out self-determination for the people of Nicaragua.

Again, the Sandinistas were every bit as brutal and corrupt as the Contras. So brutality is irrelevant. So is self determination when those people are choosing to align themselves with the most oppressive and evil empire in modern history.
Sorry you cannot see the sound reasoning for stopping the conversion of Central and South America into a new Soviet Block. Thankfully, men with better minds than you did.

Reagan was a war criminal plain and simple. Tens of thousands of innocent folks were murdered on his orders in Nicaragua, El Salvador, the African frontline states, Lebonon, etc. He sold weapons to Iran at a time Iran was considered and enemy of the U.S. The man was a disgrace who escaped justice. As to ending the Cold War, his decisions at the Reykjavik summit extended the Cold War by years, wasting hundreds of billions on unnecessary defense spending. His fiscal policies were obscene creating deficits on a scale not seen since WWII.
Hint: If you don't want a P&N discussion on ATOT then don't start a thread trying to gloss over some very shameful history.

You apparently are very liberal and have a distorted view of his presidency. In my opinion, Reagan was one of the greatest presidents this country has ever known. I'd be willing to state top 3.

Actaully, under Reagan AIDS recieved far more funding than cancer research (nearly 6 billion dollars). So while he publically ignored it for political reasons the first few years, he did fund it.
Amazing considering the fact that by that time AIDS had killed only 6000 people while cancer had killed tens of thousands each year.

No, the Reaganites just murdered a bunch of people. That is history. These disgusting attempts by members of the Reagan personality cult to rewrite history will not prevail, the ghosts won't sleep. Your reply has basically reiterated the Reagan administration's declaration to the people of Nicaragua: "Vote for who we want or we'll keep killing you".

You are wrong and I proved it. You've got nothing. Inflation and interest rates COOLED under Reagan's term. The high interest rates where what was used to cool the double digit inflation.
They peaked the year after Reagan took office and steadily went down with only a couple small upticks along the way.

You proved nothing. I have MY mortgage papers from the time. Deficit spending went up, military spending went up, savings went down, and America's future was mortgaged.

YOUR mortgage means exactly dick. I posted the yearly mortgage rates of the period. Either counter them with factual proof, or capitulate.
Mortgage rates:
Dec-81 15.53
Dec-82 13.44
Dec-83 11.94
Dec-84 12.26
Dec-85 10.7
Dec-86 9.29
Dec-87 8.86
You can claim the opposite all you want, but it's not Reagan's fault you got screwed on your loan.
