Lucas HAS the talent to make decent movies, and has done so (not just Star Wars), but these last three were horrid. I suspect that when given an unlimted budget, and little oversight, he got carried away.

I think Lucas has a knack for creating compeling characters and universes (let's admit it, Darth Vader, Jedies, the force, etc. are all awesome; even if they just rip off different mythologies from different cultures, it's a GOOD ripoff), and interesting situations for them. However, everything else he should delegate to someone else with more talent, just like he did for most of the original trilogy.

In the prequels, he tried to do everything himself and it shows.

BTW: I'm still confused by Leah saying she remembers her mother, "...she died when I was very young," but in Ep3 she dies during childbirth.
She made a Force connection during birth or right after birth with her mother. At least that's what the common belief is.

I have watched it many times and just enjoy it each time I watch it.
Anyone else feel differently?
Didn't meet my expectations. Especially the end. I expected more emotion.
It totally blew my expectations away.
Why?
I saw Episodes I and II. 😉

You're the only one...

Personally, I thought it was mediocre.

Blanket comments like that are idiotic. Speak for yourself. I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I'm not afraid to criticize any of the movies, but I enjoyed Ep. III. Yes, a lot of the events were rushed because Lucas wasted too much time with goofy aliens and CGI crap in Ep I & II. In the end though and despite some of the horrid dialogue, I thought the Ep. III story was compelling.

Lucas lost his way though with the start of the prequel trilogy. He was too wrapped up in making a movie on a computer.

All the prequels, including Ep.3, are terrible. They are utterly lacking in the human quality that made the originals so great.

I love all of the Star Wars movies. They are all great Sci-Fi flicks and when watched for ure enjoyment of a good movie, they kick ass. Problem is the first three were more then just movies and were actually a religion for some people that the latest 3 had no chance of ever holding up to everyone's expectations.

But putting any preconceived notions aside, they were a lot of fun. Except for Jar-Jar but that's a whole nother thread...

Bad dialogue, awesome special effects... only worth seeing because it was part of such a long series of movies.

That's got to be total BS... Luke was born first in Episode III, and he is stronger than Leah in the force so why didn't he make the connection? Besides they were less than 1 minute old, you are not even clinicly self-aware of your existance that young and doesn't a force connection require two-way communication like in KOTOR 2? Padme was not even force sensitive.

There's lots of people that have feelings about people that they've never known like this. Babies are aware of things even when they are in the womb.

When she says in Ep 6 that she remembers her mother, she says it's just feelings really so maybe that's it...

Or else someone was just drunk when they wrote the script.

i thought it was terrible... i started laughing at some of the dialogue, it was so bad

story itself was very good.. directing and writing was not that great
lucas is way overrated when in terms of the star wars series. he can create a good story but cannot flesh it out in script all that well, and cannot bring out great acting out of actors who have it in them. watch v for vendetta, and then watch the newer star wars trilogy. look at the difference of natalie portman alone. she can act, but like all actors, they need the guidance of a good director. george lucas is not that director in terms of bringing out the role from an actor.

yeah. he can come up with a heck of a story. but the script and directing? ugh he sucks.

its a pity though. just think how the movie could have been with a good director and better writers. But of course i watched it. I did enjoy the final fight scene and vader raising up on the table! man they should have ended it right there. that NOOOO really killed it.

You don't watch Star Wars for the acting, and yo udon't watch Broadway for special effects. If youwatch Star Wars expecting it to have the features of typical movies, then you will be disappointed.

If you know the story line adn you go into watch it, the experience should be pretty good, because you know what to expect.

Honestly, the saber fights totally kicked butt in Episode III. Watch the original, and you will see how terrible it is. Even when they speed it up in special edition, it still loks like crap. Looks like a bunch of people just tapping their sticks back and forth.

speaking of saber fights, two of the best ones are actually found in episode 1: the one with Yoda, and the other with Darth Maul.

And in Ep4 when the effects failed during the Obi Wan and Vader fight. heehee

Yoda didnt fight in ep one, they were sitll using the puppet in ep one.

I actually liked episode 3, I agree that some of the dialogue was bad but I still enjoyed the movie.

IT depends what you were looking for. I was looking for the scenes all Star Wars fans expect, such as the Obi Wan / Anakin duel, Yoda fighting Palpatine, etc, Mace Windu dying, blah blah. I was just looking to see how this fit into my Star Wars history knowledge. Now I tried watching it again like I watch other movies where you're just trying to understand what's going on assuming you don't know much about it, and well yea the diallogue is definitely retarded. But then so is all Star Wars. 4, 5, 6 are extremely cheesy at this point like when Han and Leia tease each other? I don't see how I can watch this and not laugh at the stupidity....

But still, I'm a Star Wars fan.

It was badass compared to 1 and 2. I still like 4-6 very much, but the intensity and inter-character-conflict of 3 were outstanding. The saber fights were incredible, the scenery was great.

There needed to be much more obvious inner conflict with Anakin to make his transition to the dark side more impacting and the transition itself shouldn't have been so quick and black-and-white. It should have drawn the audience along with Anakin in his struggle, until the point where the audience isn't willing to go along with his progression and step back to watch him plummet even further. It felt like "...oh, okay so he's evil now? Okay."

It also leaves me feeling sorry for Vader instead of fearing him like I did with the original 4-6.

I like Ep. III, too. Watched it at CompUSA during my "lunch break" last week. I really like it, one of my favorite of the Star Wars series.

I thought it was a great movie.

I think the star wars nerds have unrealistic expectations considering how much they pour over every detail of the original trilogy.

relatively it was good..relative to eps 1-2 of course.
objectively? pretty lousy, and sad, all that hard work and resources spent on nice special effects doomed by lucas being a control freak. he should be atleast considered scripts or help from other writers.
