I purchased a kickass BBQ grill. *PICS*

Wouldn't the landlord beat your ass(or, realistically, fine you or punish you in a wimpier way) if you use that thing within 10 ft from the building?

That is what I was thinking.

In every apt I've ever lived in, you are NOT allowed to have grills on the patio, especially charcoal ones due to the whole lighter fluid flame-up thing.

However:

1. I was never specifically told "don't do this."
2. Out of the 100-some-odd apts here, more than HALF have grills sitting on the patio, just like mine.
3. This is a gas grill which IMO is a lot safer than a charcoal grill; cleaner too.

Now, my apt is on the corner, on the right side of the office. If the owner or manager say JACKDOODLYSQUAT to me, I will point to every single goddamn balcony and say:

When I see all those gone, I will remove mine

They think b/c I'm single they can push me around. I swear the world hates single people. As we say down in Texas:

Fvck Yall

I am betting they WILL say something to me. I will FIRST take pics of every single balcony w/a grill on it, print them out and as I hand them to him, I will voice the above quote.

This is the nicest apt I've ever lived in, but I refuse to cower, you know?

I would NOT have purchased the grill if I hadn't already seen all the other grills on the other patios.

Makes perfect sense to me.

For $208 not bad I suppose, though I would have paid a little extra and gotten a Weber Genisis silver B or C, depending on if you use the side burner or not. I don't particularly care for the Accuflame system from Fiesta or Char-Broil.

That probably would have been almost twice as much.

A Weber Genisis Silver would be 4-5 times as much. IIRC, they start at around $1000.

A "little extra?" I think not.

You might be thinking of the Summit line of grills. Depending on the setup, those can run you from 800ish to thousands. The Genesis A can be had for under $350. The Genesis B and C models are more like 400-500, depending on how much stainless steel you get (cover, grates...). Nevertheless, Weber grills are much more expensive than most other brands.

I will say this though- they're very well designed. Any half-competent person could have a Weber out of the box and cooking steaks in less than 15 minutes. Compare that to most other brands, and....there is no comparison. Plus most of the key parts are under warranty and can often be handled directly with the dealer. The same cannot be said with many other cheap grills.

Ah, yes. You are quite right. I had the two confused. I stand corrected.

BTW, I have a Kenmore Elite grill and love it.

I drilled into the brick with carbide-tipped masonary bits. I have a complete 12-piece set. I have Sears tool dept in my apt. 😀

Time will tell, but the grill seems decently made. Controls have a smooth action to them and click on and off quite satisfyingly. 🙂

It's warranted for 5 years, all parts. I mailed my warranty registration today.

BTW, I just got home from work; no phone calls or nasty letters from the office.

If I make it thru this week w/o any probs, then I'll assume I'm good to go. I don't trust them though.

Thanks for your outstandingly helpful, insightful and above all, pleasant contribution. Now, isn't there a monkey cage that needs to be swept out or something? Get to work.

It's kickass to ME. I paid cash for it. I own it. I am happy with it. No ribs, burgers, steak or kabobs for you, mister.

ps
It was a lot more than $.10 anyway. 😛

mmmm i like those. i thought you had your own recipe or something, though.

make sure you have enough gas in the tank before you start grilling

<--- ran out of gas 1/4 the way through a ribeye, then had the flame go out right after changing the tank

achk now i'm hungry. my dad has a grill that looks like that at home. going to have him fire it up when i get back home for the 4th of july weeee

OMG!!!

My kids bought me the exact same model as this one for Fathers Day. I love it! 🙂

I even got a cover for it. 😎

About....7 years ago, I was renting a house. It had a BBQ gas grill. I used that bad boy 3-4 days a week. Since then, I've not had a grill, but have missed it. :brokenheart:

Today, I realized the dream. 😀 I bought a nice grill. Even got the Implements of Destruction to go w/it.

40K BTU's of Scorched Meat Mayhem. Pics:

Safety First! (Had this in the kitchen, moved it out here so stupid property owner can see I'm good to go)

Let's see, I cooked: T-Bone steak, 2 Rib Eyes, 4 chicken breasts. Didn't eat them all! 1/2 of that is lunch for this week. Made Ranch Style Beans on the side burner and corn and green beans on the stove in the house.

It was yummy. Gas grills rock.

ps
I took the pics before cooking. I was too busy cooking (and sampling 😀) to take pics while actually cooking. Yes, I used the copper brush to scrape the grill afterwards; I take care of my stuff!

Hello there.

Thanks for the kind words. I really like this grill; for $208, it's a great deal, IMO. I take care of my stuff (ergo the cover) it should last "forever."

I just got home from school; no nasty note on the door. Yet. But then again, this office is Forrest Gump Slow when it comes to things...I know the manager bitch has my celly; she called me on it when my neighbors ratted me out about the stereo.

I'd imagine if she had something new to say, she'd have called me today. I'll give it a few days though.

Interestingly enough; there's a big old empty box by the dumpster. Charbroil gas grill. Someone ELSE just bought one too. They won't make EVERYONE remove them. I'm probably worrying about nothing. The grills were here BEFORE I moved in. 🙂

I got busted when we lived in an apt for having a grill on our patio:|

Enjoy dude😀

Every apt I've lived in (that had a patio) prohibited grills. When I moved in here, about 30% of all apts had grills. Now that number is closer to 60%.

Gas AND charcoal, which I disagree w/the latter. It's NOT safe on a patio....lighter fluid is nasty stuff.

But that's neither here nor there. I'm really hoping I don't wind up storing thsi thing in my 2nd BR. 🙁

I think the major concern will be the patio overhang.

A few years back a guy around here caught a whole apartment building on fire cooking stuff on a covered patio.

Another guy burned down a 500k house doing the same thing.

Remember the heat only travels one way, and always make sure the "safety equipment" is in proper working order. And of course a pat on the back for even having the forethought to put one out there.

Cool. 🙂 I agree with you on everything you said. My overhang is that sheet metal siding. The building is obviously brick. The overhang is a good 3 feet higher than the GRILL surface itself, and 99% of the cooking is done w/the lid down.

I'm a big safety geek. I'm the kind of guy that will light sticks of TNT and toss them into a dumpster of light bulbs...but I'll have an extinguisher handy and I'll wear gloves and safety goggles. 😀
