I propose a BOYCOTT!!!

I'm sick of all the high priced video cards nowadays. I say Instead of what developers are doing now, they optimize code instead (i.e. console style.) that way everyone will get the same card and have great performance!!

If us consumers stick together, we could do this!!

Ummm...

last I checked, there were dozens, if not hundreds, of really affordable video cards out there... did they suddenly just disappear?

good luck with your "strike". :

you don't always have to have the latest and greatest

and what do you suggest people use to connect their monitor when they build a new computer? (onboard graphics FTW!)

I picked up my 6800GS pci-e for less than 200 bucks 2 months ago and think it performs like a champ in just about every current game. Is it the fastest or most powerful card?? Nope, but I'm happy with it and it was affordable.

Personally I wouldn't touch any of the new fancy cards out there until Vista with its DX10 stuff comes out (Shader Model 4 ..all that stuff) and whether lots of dual gpu cards come out by then.

No thanks, my $99 6600GT plays my games fine at 1680x1050 30fps

30fps? Your standards are quite low 😱

well sure, I prefer 60-80fps but my rig is 3 years old, a P4 2.8 with 1 gig of ram. I did buy the video card last year though. I think my computer was a good deal considering it cost me less than $1000 and its 3 years old.

You can still play the latest and greatest games on an older graphics card. You can't play them at the highest resolutions nor can you have all the special effects on, but you can still play them.

The video card industry is kind of in a rut when it comes to pricing. While other components have stayed relatively the same in cost, or dropped, video card prices have continually climbed. When the Voodoo2 was top dog it was a little over 200... something like that. Now if you want the best you've got to drop more than half a grand. And that AIN'T inflation, people. Maybe as the industry transitions to multicore tech, like the CPU industry is doing, we'll see more reasonable prices as there will, hopefully, be less of a push to smaller dies and rediculously fast (and EXPENSIVE) memory.

I think that this whole video card thing has gone too far too. Has anyone here seen BLACK for PS2? The graphics, sound, and physics, are about the same as computers, but the GPU is so much older. how did they do this? Optimization people!!

BTW, that would be a boycott, unless your only directing your "strike" at ATI and Nvidia workers that post on these boards.

If we do this we can have ATI and Nvidia at our fingertips. We tell them what we will buy, not they telling us.

At ATi HQ:

"Sir we have a problem in bravo sector"

"What is going on?"

"We have a bunch of whiney teenagers who have decided to strike against our high priced cards"

"Oh...really?"

"YA RLY"

"Fvck em"

"k"

Sounds similar to my box, except I have a X800XT AGP, even with all the eye candy turned on I'm pulling 60fps+ in most games.
