I wonder how much longer they are going to milk the Doom franchise, because I am yawning.

Uhh... this is the first new Doom game since like 1994(?) and only the third in the series. I really don't see any milking.

Yeah seriously, sounds just like another anti-pop trying to be cool and hating everything that's mainstream.

Not really. I spent countless hours playing Doom and Quake, I just don't see this genre having much more potential. For me it is time to move on. Maybe Doom 3 will be good for some kids who haven't really played Doom or Quake before.

Yes, you just let someone borrow $70 from you for 3 months interest free.

Try about a week, not three months.

Really? I heard it wasn't due out until October.

I think HL-2 has a unofficial October release date.

Maybe that is the one I was thinking of. I think both titles were supposed to be out last year though weren't they? I wouldn't pre-order anything quite frankly.

I just preordered Doom IV for $200.00, expected ship date 2012. And before you call me a dumbass for paying so much....keep in mind inflation...it might be $250.00 by the time it comes out. So I save $50 while you numbskulls have to pay $250. neener neener neener....

Sure I might be run over by a bus before then, or could have made money on the interest, but i got a fancy figurine that could be worth much more if it become a collector's item among atoters that shout lightning bolt lightninbg bolt! dressed up like elves when they hang out so stfu noobs, and no there are no cliff notes...nor pics...

IIRC, HL-2 was supposed to be out last year, not sure about D3 though. ID never really said a definitive date for D3, they just said it's done when it's done.

Aren't all FPS running around and killing stuff? Finally where going back to good old demons, and not trying to stop nazi's or mad scientist trying to take over the world.

Yeah, but Doom basically turned into Quake. I really don't see how they can take the "lone marine travels through a maze like map killing monsters and bad guys" concept any further. In any event, they seem to be selling Doom 3 mostly on eye candy which bolsters my above point.

But Quake turned into a multiplayer-only game with Q3. Doom 3 will feature what will hopefully be a strong single experience. I always like the Doom series story line. I like killing demon baddies.

This thread is a mindfvck of mis-information. I lost brain cells reading it.

I pre-ordered Doom3 awhile ago from Ebgames. It is pretty cool because I don't even have to worry about when the game gets released, it will just appear on my doorstop the day after release. I am also looking forward to the rumored Quake4 that will be made off the Doom3 engine. As the rumors go, it will be more like Quake1 than Quake3, which is a good thing for those of us who spent years playing Q1.

Edit: And for a good reason why I enjoy pre-ordering games, I'll refer to "Tales of Symphonia". It is an RPG released to the GC. Since the last Tales game did really crappy in America, this one was released in limited availability. It immediatly went out of stock at nearly every single computer store. But my pre-order from Ebgames was at my door the day after the game was released. Plus they gave me a poster and an extremely nice artbook. *shrug*

Even at a 5% inflation rate, compounded annually, a $50 game will only cost about $74 in the year 2012, dumbass.

That's funny because the day UT2004 was released I walked into Fry's and picked up my "UT 2004 SE DVD tin package with the headset" copy and got it on sale to boot. :) As a matter of fact, they had quite a few copy when I got there.

Like I said, I NEVER pre-order and I have ALWAYS gotten a copy of the movie\game I wanted when it was released. ;)

I would say that with a popular game like doom 3 I have about a 5% chance of getting a copy within the first 5 days if I don't pre-order here.

Also, is it my imagination or did someone above say they liked the storyline of doom. That's like saying you like a documentary because of the quality of the acting.

I've only pre-ordered to get bonus stuff. The most notable example being preordering Wind Waker and getting the N64 game that I had never gotten to finish, since I never bought an N64.
However, I find it suspicious that Doom 3 preorder for X-box from Gamestop is $50, whereas the PC preorder is $55, but you get a "free" demon figure.

This thread is useless without a poll. :)

On topic, I usually don't pre-order. I did pre-order FFXI, which was a waste, cause it bored me to death.

I would've liked to have gotten the UT2004 DVD edition though, beats 6 installation cds, but I just got that a few weeks ago anyways. I should've ordered it online instead of buying it at CC.
