I physically can't play Guitar Hero.

Yeah.. physically, at least not comfortably on anything more than easy. My pinky "locks up" at the middle joint often, and after trying to play the other day I got through maybe 3 songs before I gave up. 🙁

No rhythm games for me anymore. Anyone else have this problem?

I've been playing the guitar (electric and acoustic/fingerstyle) for about 23 years. I can't play GH to save my life. My fingers want to actually fret strings, not press blocky buttons. :frown:

Play the drums or sing then since you can't do the guitar?

I don't have either of the "band" type games. I'm too cheap to actually pay that kind of money.

Use your index finger to transition between the green and red notes. Don't use your pinky to do the blue/orange notes.

Well, you could play on easy which doesn't require the pinky, but that does take a lot of the fun out of it. Or, if that doesn't happen with both hands try playing with the other, though that would take some getting used to I'm sure.

I've played guitar for about 10 years and I have no trouble with GH. It's a completely different thing, I don't think one has any effect on the other. 🙂 You just have to remember that it's not really trying to be like playing guitar, any more than Madden is really like playing football, or an FPS is really like shooting people/zombies/aliens.

Just don't use your pinky finger. There are actually quite a lot of expert players out there that only use 3 fingers for all five buttons. They say it's easier for them than trying to use their pinky. Give that a shot.

I tried that. I actually do far better with 4 than 3 fingers. 🙁 If I have to slide, usually about half way through the song it's over for me. God forbid I try hard or anything.

Do you realize how fast your hands would have to be to do this?

Bruce Fuckin' Lee fast! That's how fast!

the horror - you can't play a fake guitar 😉 now go learn a real one 😛

I would anticipate having similar if not worse problems with that these days - I haven't played in many years on a real guitar - not that I was very good anyway.

I may not have the same physical ailment as you with your pinky, but my pinky is usually some worthless piece of flesh attached to my finger. Hell, if you watch me type, you'll see that my left pinky is always kept off to the side of the keyboard because I never even use it 😛. The right one has been reduced to "Shift Bitch"

But I took awhile to get used to playing Guitar Hero as well. I was just horrible for awhile, but I started playing one day and it was like a second nature to me! I'm still not as good as most are, but it'll come whenever I feel like playing again 🙂.

As long as you're having fun, right?

heh I have the same problem even though I haven't played guitar for nearly as long. Playing GH is entirely different then playing a real guitar. I never tried to get used to GH, I just put it down and figured I'd rather spend the time practicing my real guitar. I do the same thing with the Wii though. Like I make the full mechanical moves for the sports games when it's entirely unnecessary. I make a full baseball swing or tennis racquet swing while my friend just flicks his wrist while sitting on the couch and does better.

I can't get my pinky to function either. I can play just fine on easy but when mr blue dot shows up I'm fkd.

that used to happen to me too. Assuming you are right handed and your left hand hits the frets/buttons... Try rotating your left hand clockwise so your fingers aren't hitting the fret/buttons straight, but at an angle. This helped me a ton and my pinky never locks up anymore.

That made me , thanks!

i took a slapshot in the pinky over a month ago

last time i tried to play GH, i could only play on medium because my pinky was too sore

i think i'm ready to try hard again

I sort of have a similar problem in that I physically can't reach both the first and fifth buttons using my index finger and pinky at the same time. So unless Nyko or some other third party releases a ukulele-sized guitar, I have to resort to sliding my hand up and down in some cases.

2/3 of the way through Knights of Cydonia on Expert where the "Galloping Triplets" section starts usually means fail for me.

As far as weak pinky -- I think it's possible to get by using only the first three fingers using some sliding at Medium difficulty.

My Dad can't play it at all since he's so used to playing a real guitar.

Kind of funny actually to watch him try...
