I pay 72 cents a kWh

The posted electrical rate here is 0.093 kWh... but this of course means nothing. I only pay $10/mo in actual electricity. My total bill is $44.92 this month after admin fees, transmission fees, distrubution fees, local access fees, taco fees...

So my EFFECTIVE kWh is 40.8 cents. Rape. I only use 110kWh/mo as well...

EDIT:

LOL, I just calculated my bill in June when I only used 55kWh of power. My bill was still $40, which works out to $0.72 kWh!

That's actually the most I have ever used.

- No TV
- Rarely cook at home
- Laptop
- All CFL bulbs

The least I have used is 55 kWh for an entire month.

It's just a one bedroom apartment.

Damn, those fees are high. Here, they just about double my bill, which was $42.28 this past month.

You do a nice job on low energy use though, wow. Back around summertime, I was over 600KWH. For my last statement, 380KWH.
My biggest energy users of any of that time:
- Computer/LCD (~200W total, turned off at night and when I'm at class during the day. No TV, my PC does that, too)
- 2 x air conditioners (summertime, obviously)
- dehumidifier, which runs much less in the winter
- refrigerator
- furnace blower
- lighting (all CFLs except for a closet light)

- stove is gas, water heater is gas, heating is gas. Clothes dryer, is electric, but it only gets used about 10 minutes - it gets the wrinkles out of the clothes, and I then hang them on racks to dry.

It comes out to $0.11126 per kilowatt hour, though it says that my "price to compare" when shopping for other providers is $0.053 per kilowatt hour.

I don't get this though, my distribution charges are split up:
173KWH x 0.030770
207KWH x 0.037874

The fees I'm charged:
Distribution, transition, generation, transmission, and 4 cents in state tax surcharges.

Wow. You use 4 times the power I do with a cheaper bill. sigh.

California?

huh? why would california have low electricity costs?

I don't know, but having just moved here (from Arizona) my electricity bill went way down. I haven't reduced my use, and I went from a gas stove to an electric (so in theory my usage should have gone up). I think my bill last month was $30 between two people (around this time I'd easily pay $40 for myself)

Yeah, I don't know where the heck it all goes, unless my refrigerator or furnace blower are drawing 15 amps each when I'm not looking. I usually have one 65W CFL running when I'm home, and in a month, that's probably about 12.74KWH. My lighting costs in general are fairly low.

I pop the Kill-a-watt meter in line with the refrigerator and see how much it's using.
The computer is probably contributing a fair amount to the bill, maybe 40-50KWH a month.
Maybe I should switch off everything in the apartment and see how fast the meter is still going. This apartment's building is shared with a small convenience store. Hopefully there aren't wires going from my breaker box over to their stuff. (And hopefully the electric company is reading the right meter.)

well your bill is so small given the amount of stuff you have anyway, it'd have to be a pretty small convenience store ;)

Generation rate per kwh: .0463
Actual charge per kwh (including the "taco fees"): .1273
Usage: 397 kwh

We _never_ turn on the heat or A/C, but do a lot of cooking (electric range), electric water heater, and have 5 computers. We were gone for 1/3 of the billing period, and this is one of the few months we have not been hit with the 'overage' rate.

.075/kwh... last bill was 185kwh, total of $18.07 for the bill.

Last gas bill was $38. I think there's something wrong with my heating system though...

735KWH over 2 months, charge is 80.53 for electricity.

however there's this stupid "solid resources fee" that's 34.32 that kills my bill each month. total amount due was 123.06 for the last bill.

It amazes me that ATOT doesn't seem to understand that electricity transmission and distribution requires mindbogglingly enormous amounts of capital infrastructure that's also very high maintenance :p

You're not going to get anyone to provide and maintain it without covering costs and some form of return ;)

As far as per unit cost, without supply charge, we pay about ~18cents a unit for 100% accredited renewable power, standard tariff is just less than 14c a unit. Since we use about 6 units a day it makes barely any difference to our bill.

Supply charge is 25.57cents a day here.
