Heh I think they're kind of a humorous fad thing.....
fad or i love you?
I think the whole flash mob thing would be better if you did something productive. Since you aren't protesting or anything, do something nice. For instance, have a group go to a park and everyone pick up trash for 10 minutes.
better idea yet

Tuesday Flashmobbery {Smart Mobs and the Power of the Mobile Many}
Posted by Thomas at 09:15 PM

One of the notions we have seen bandied about in Flashmob discussions is the idea that a Flashmob could engage in some sort of charitable activity, such as feeding the homeless. At last, a mob in Birmingham, England, put that great idea into practice. Mobbers materialized with old clothing in hand to donate to an Oxfam thrift shop.

Oxfam deputy manager Ken Cox admitted he was shocked by the sudden rush of donations at exactly 12.12pm, but grateful for the altruism of those taking part.

He said: "I wondered what was going on when I saw them all coming, but it's brilliant and it has put a smile on my face. They should do a flash mob like this every day as far as I'm concerned."

Thanks, Cori!

If it were random everyone would be in different places. Unfortunately that would defeat the mob aspect of it all. Or you can take it another way and have the mob travel from business to business doing random acts of nothing. Full showing the world what intelligence we breed in the US.

Maybe I'm just too old for this kind of thing. :(

Replace the word "old" with "intelligent" and you are right.

The whole point of the flash mob is, there is no point. If it where to be for charity, there would be a point. Yes, it would probably make the world a better place if everyone went to charity flash mobs, but then the flash mobs wouldn't have caught on. The reason they have caught on so well is because they're pointless.

seriously how can you say its not fun you've never tried it. Try explaining american football to someone who has never heard of it, they'll think its the dumbest sounding thing also.

EDIT:

I'm glad my post actually resulted in someone else attending.

Unfortunately I was stuck at work in silver spring and missed it

It shouldn't be too hard for anyone to understand a random act. Especially if the random act is well planned out. It could be funny. But it also could get out of control very easily. Thats what makes it dangerous.

"Mob Mentality" and all that jazz...

Exactly. Not to mention, they disrupt general public / business activities. What if you were in the bookstore, and wanted to buy a magazine when 90-100 people came in and took over the place. It's not funny.

Not to mention that with ~100 people packing the store, who knows what was stolen by this "harmless" mob.

lighten up and dont take a magazine so seriously(or better yet goto another f-ing store or wait 5 minutes till they dissipate). you can tell all the stressed out, up tight, anal people here.

Washington Post story (linked above) was pretty interesting. There's a video link there too (real player). The clerk at the end of the video is way too funny... "I was like, oh my god, there's a flash mob, and nobody knew what it was but me".

I still think Flash Mob's are lame, but, the story is entertaining.

imo it sounds like harmless fun.

a whole bunch of people didn't do anything illegal, didn't go around killing people, didn't go around hurting anyone, didn't go around hating anyone, got out of the house and had a good time.

as far as i can tell that drives the universal good karma up a notch.

now if they started doing stuff like stealing magazines then i'd have a problem with it.

I'm not uptight at all, I just hate "random" mobs because I want to go about my day and not have some retard and his pals act like jackasses at the expense of my time.

IMO, this is abuse of free speech. Mabye you flash mob people should take life a little more seriously and stop f'ing around just because you think its funny. Its like going back through high school, but worse. :|
