I need to start weaning myself off diet "coke".

Coke, soda, pop, whatever you tend to call it. I drink probably 5 or 6 cans of generic diet soda every day, sometimes less sometimes more. It's always diet but I know that's still not good for me. A study was just released showing a connection between soda intake and pancreatic cancer, even if it's diet! Not sure I have the will power to cut it out though. Well actually I have the willpower, I'm loosing weight, but not sure I want to lol 😀

good idea!

What I did to ween myself from soda drinks:

Bought a squeezable sports bottle - and fill it with water mixed with Propel powder packet [Berry flavored].

Try making unsweetened iced tea. It might take a little while to adjust, but the more complicated, subtle flavor wins out imo. I make a 2L pitcher with 4 tea bags. Typically, I use 2 bags of black tea, or 2 bags of green tea with 2 bags of flavored tea(typically herb) added for flavor. "Dark" flavors(spice primarily) go well with black tea, and "light" flavors(mint, bright fruit) go well with green.

I bring a tea kettle to boil on the stove, turn off the heat, then put the tea in. Once it's cooled down enough, I put it in a pitcher, top it of with water, and fridge it. It tastes good, as is very cheap, especially if you look for good deals on tea. BigLots gets tea in regularly, and I'll stock up when the get some good flavors in.

Look up aspertame and side effects. If this doesn't give you incentive, nothing will.

The whole aspartame thing is clouded in so much shit on both sides it's impossible to know what to think. If you look up aspartame on the net you will see all kinds of sites linking it to every known illness on earth but much of this is just baseless fear mongering. However I'm not saying that it's harmless. There have been studies that linked it to cancer and other conditions. However there have been many other studies that were equally inconclusive.

I could switch to drinking club soda flavoured with lemon juice for a while. We have a home club soda maker.

I've always liked Diet sodas as well and recently stopped drinking them.

I try not to drink soda at all, but what I've found is since I don't like the taste of regular sodas very much that if I get the craving I'll just get a regular coke, which I wont drink much of anyway, maybe half the can.

I'm sticking to water or seltzer water or unsweatened iced tea.

I'll say that I do feel better overall since getting off Diet sodas.

Flavored seltzer water's great. I get that fairly frequently, and even the store brands are decent. My favorite was Strathmore from Scotland, but I haven't seen that around in ages.

Think about the porous rocks you see around volcanoes. Then think about your bones. That's what the phosphoric acid in soda does to them. It may not be the sugar from soda that would give you the problems - it may be the osteoporosis that comes later in life.

Aspartame is a shotty argument. Calcium mobilization from bone induced by H3PO4 is a studied effect. It's bad times.

I'll play it safe. Hops, barley, and malt.

The FDA believes it to be safe in much higher doses than a human could reasonably consume by drinking soda. Some people say they get headaches from it, but I don't.

Do you have a peer-reviewed study published in a scientific journal that says otherwise?

Why do you need to wean yourself off? Just quit. It's not a drug, your body isn't physically dependent on diet coke. It takes 21 times to make a habit, so, every time you want a soda go drink a glass of water. After the 21st glass, it will be your new habit and you won't think to get a coke. Easy.

Someone here said they had memory problems when they used aspertame. They weren't predisposed to distrust it, but noticed the effect over time. That might not be scientific, but it's still worthy of note. Even if it's just a personal sensitivity, I doubt they're the only ones in the world that have had that effect.

I quit drinking soda almost a year ago. First few days I had an incredible headache...and today I might drink 1 can a month. Whenever I drink soda these days, it tastes like pure chemical.
