I really like it here in Columbia, IL. It is close to St. Louis (15 minutes) but far enough away as well.

I have been working in Denver, CO for a few months now, and I just love it here... laid back environment, everyone is friendly, relatively low standard of living, great weather... job market looks pretty good too

This is the land of 400K+ for an 800 Square foot Townhouse in Waltham which with traffic is about 40min out of the city....car insurance is regulated and costs da bomb as well as every other fee once you add it up.

Boston is a ripoff. Good luck in your search though as I would love to move out of the beantown.

I have also heard that Austin Texas is a great affordable place to live.

I've heard Oregon is gorgeous and a great place to live.

Been through Boston... felt like boiling myself afterward.

Unfortunately the place is full of Texans!

Oregon is great and if you don't mind cold winters New Hampshire is nice too. Another plus is neither place has sales tax.

I've heard some good things about New Jersey recently, you might try there. Do your homework on the state before you pack, GamerExpress has informed me that there is some great and wealthy test of your greatness and wealth before you are allowed to enter the great and wealthy land of milk and honey and solid gold robot bartender monkeys.

Preferably in the US.

there was a list of top 10 places to live in the US somewhere on msn. If you don't mind the cold, Ann Arbor MI was #4. Fun place to live, especialy if you lean left politically

How about D.C.?

What are you, retarded? D.C. meets none of his criteria. Horribly expensive, crappy schools, high crime, horrible traffic. People are OK I guess. But this is not a place you should move to.

All of my statements apply, except the schools are better. What the heck does being white have to do with it? There are probably more minorities in the Maryland suburbs of DC than white people.

Medium-sized city in the Midwest.

I can't believe people are suggesting places like Chicago, Portland, and DC - those are the exact OPPOSITE of what OP is asking.
