i took out a pretty big masterlock with a pair of bolt cutters. i was scared of how easy it was.

just a little clip, and it was done. the shank was prob 3/8" diameter, too.

edit: the bolt cutter i used had 18" handles. i have a 12" handled one in my car now as part of my standard toolkit/bicycle reappropriation/commandeering kit.

So, i brought a pair of 24 inch cutter $22.00 out the door. This master lock snapped off in acouple seconds. Replaced it with a cheap no brand lock from walmart. This time the keys wont be lost.
