I need to buy a desk for my room.

I just moved out of my parents house too (I'm a big girl nao too! 😀), and I went to IKEA and got a great bed frame for like...175 bucks. Including the slatted base, and all I needed was my mattress (which I already had).

Go to IKEA, you'll end up regretting that egg carton bullshit about 2 days into it.

This. Don't skimp on a bed. It will affect your life in horrible ways.

Everyone is right here. You can skimp on almost everything but the bed. Believe me, no one is going to want to sleep next to you on the floor. A futon would work if you must but I would still recommend a real bed. You don't have to get a big Queen or King but try to get a Full. It's big enough for you and can still accommodate someone if they spend the night. One other thing to realize about college is that you often times won't be getting a lot of sleep or you'll be getting a little here or there. This means that the time you do spend in bed is important. This means you need a comfortable place where you can get a restful sleep.

If you're concerned about price it can be fairly inexpensive if you go the Craig's List route. I sold a full size bed that was very comfortable (pillow top), in good condition and only 4 years old for $150 (I tried selling it for more initially but I didn't even get a bite at $200). You can probably find a descent one in the $90 - $150 range in most places around the US.

Sounds terrible, Dude.

I don't think I want an old bed. Who knows what happened on it, sheets withholding.

I'll check out a real bed since it's been pushed so much, but I'm not dropping $200.

For real!!! What if I did like 5 or 6 egg crates mattresses?

I seriously believe I could mimic 70% of what a real bed gives you.

I just gave away a huge sectional desk on craigslist from my dad's old office, you should have come and got it. Was getting a ton of calls after not a single call when it was $30. They had to work about 1.5 hrs to take it apart.

Makes sense. You're from Tejas.

No real bed = mega fail.

I slept on a futon for a year before I moved back home.

It was never uncomfortable. Plus, it was a couch when I needed one.

It was a monstrosity, sectional desk with many pieces and cabinets that were mounted on the wall. We would have had to pay a few hundred bucks for the moving company to haul it to the dump, so we were happy.

If I had the choice (and I do) I'd never substitute a quality bed for the crap you suggested.

I ended up getting a 4' folding table from Staple for 50 bucks.
I went to Wally World and got 2 of those plastic drawer carts for 40 bucks. Light, easy to move, great for shorts/tshirts/undergarments.

As for the bed, ATOT was right. A second night of sleeping on my "egg crate setup" has me waking up tired as as a mofo. I went to Ikea last night and saw the Dalselv Full Frame. It pretty much does everything I would need it to. However, I don't really get the headboard. Wtf is that for?

I also saw this Nomad Full Frame on Amazon, which is more appealing but pricier. The thing I like about this is that all the reviews were great, especially since assembly requires screws going into metal holes. The Dalselv at Ikea has you screwing into wood in some places, requiring you to either bore a hole or risk the wood cracking with re-assembly.
