I need to buy a desk for my room.

I moved out of the parents house (I'm a big boi now!!) and I need some furniture.

But I want to keep it SIMPLE. I prefer to be as mobile as possible. I.e. no big ass bed, desk, etc.

As for a bed, I'm just going to buy 3 or 4 of those egg carton foam things, lay a couple sleeping bags on top, put some sheets over it and call it a day. For dresser, I'll get one of those 3-shelf plastic bins.

I've seen some simple things at Ikea and Walmart for a desk. Standard stuff, maybe a drawer or two, but that's it.

Should I spend some time on craigslist to find a desk for cheap, or just go to the store and pick something up right away? Assembly would be best because I drive a Civic and don't really want to rent a truck to pick up a desk.

Edit:

I ended up getting a 4' folding table from Staple for 50 bucks.
I went to Wally World and got 2 of those plastic drawer carts for 40 bucks. Light, easy to move, great for shorts/tshirts/undergarments.

As for the bed, ATOT was right. A second night of sleeping on my "egg crate setup" has me waking up tired as as a mofo. I went to Ikea last night and saw the Dalselv Full Frame. It pretty much does everything I would need it to. However, I don't really get the headboard. Wtf is that for?

I also saw this Nomad Full Frame on Amazon, which is more appealing but pricier. The thing I like about this is that all the reviews were great, especially since assembly requires screws going into metal holes. The Dalselv at Ikea has you screwing into wood in some places, requiring you to either bore a hole or risk the wood cracking with re-assembly.

Who are you kidding? This is AnandTech, remember?

but he's a big boi now?

Why not both? Used Ikea/Walmart desks on Craigslist? You can find used jerkers for like 40-80 depending on where you are vs the newer fredrick for 100+. I don't really know which ikea/walmart models have drawers or fit your room but look for those.

Especially if you live anywhere near a university/college.

Not a bad idea!

Air mattresses are fail. A few nights rest are fine, but you can't sleep on those every night. They deflate faster than Pam Anderson.

If my bed idea doesn't work out, I'll just get a futon. Couch/bed combo FTW.

It's college. The fuck would I spend shit tons of money on good furniture?

Besides, I'm RENTING.

If I had a place to call my home, my house, then I'd say "fuck yes, I'm going to buy me a queen size bed and a nice ass desk. This is my residence and I'm going to enjoy it."

Too big but I'll go anyways and see if they have some smaller sizes.

I don't need that much desk real estate (monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer), plus all the unused space collects dust.

Don't skimp on the bed, even if you just put a mattress on the floor, don't skimp.

I have an Expedit bookshelf with the desk add-on. It works quite nicely.

You can skimp on a lot of things but skimping on the bed is just a bad idea.

As for desks a month ago would've probably been a great time to get a desk cheap. I used a donated dining room table as a desk for years. Office depot/max or Fry's all will have super super cheap desks. Desks for which Ikea is a step up :p

Don't skimp on the bed.
