hi everyone. I have decided to buy me a laptop, however I don't want to buy something that is gonna crash in a month. I need really something stable and reliable. And here I come to the point why I need some pro advice from anyone that is these things. I saw that there are Intel Chips and AMD chips. I know that probably Intel are better but however AMD are sold for less money so now I don't really know what to buy! What I fear is that AMD could get overheated easier that Intel!!! Is this actually so? Is it wise to buy me an AMD laptop or better not to risk and get me an Intel? Thanks for the help guyz...

If you don't know/like mac then I would recomend an IBM.

However if you are willing to try mac then go for an apple, they are pretty decent also. Just check to make sure all your programs and stuff are availible for mac, which most likely they will be as Mac nowdays has a much larger software library than years ago.

Go IBM then, they are pricy but you get what you pay for. I belive that Toshiba makes decent laptop products also but don't quote me on that.

Everybody has been really happy with the Athlon64 Emachines laptop. Has a Athlon64 and a real ATI 9600 video card, etc... Can be had for less then $1500 maybe a lot less depending if you get a DVD burner, etc...
And the Athlon64 has the cool and something thing. Makes the chip run cooler.

Well like I said I know the older AMD's overheated BAD, you could burn your legs off. But the newer ones, the Athlon64 ones dont I belive, but I could be missinformed.

Emachines is not the bad a product IMO, never has been. People have always complained about it but for the money its a decent product. You get what you pay for though in anything, Yes comparing a $700 Emachines laptop for a $1500 IBM with the same specs, the Emachines looks better but the IBM's quality is much better. It all depends on what you what out of it and how much your want to put in it.

Ahh i see. I currently have a HP laptop.. But its becoming outdated so I've been looking around and exploring the options. I would use this laptop as an everyday computer. I've retired from using a desktop computer. But besides that it wouldnt get much workout. Mostly just using Office and browsing/chatting. You think an emachine would be ok for me?

IDK for sure, like I said before I havent been looking for one so Im not sure of whats all up to date etc... But IMO if your not going to game or do high end graphics and stuff like that an Emachines should work fine for you. But I just looked at their site, unless you can get a good discount at a retail store, you should be able to get a new HP/Compaq laptop for the same price range, even a Slightly larger/heavier IBM one. Just set yourself a budget to go by and then shop around for what seems good for you. Go to retail stores and test them out, fell how heavy they are and how big they are. Find what suits your needs.

If you don't do much gaming then for a cheap laptop look at the....

Less then $800 Athlon XP-M laptop

If you want more power and a btter video game video card then look at....

Athlon64 Laptop

Ok thats what it was I knew there was another Athlon CPU other than the 64, i forgot about the XP-M lol. That compaq one looks pretty nice, I had an older compaq laptop with the older AMD processors, other than it getting extremly hot it was a very good/reliable product. I would recomend that XP-M laptop since they no longer get hot.

Yea the early Athlon XP laptops used reg. chips juts a LITTLE lesse voltage. Also compaq/hp did a HORIABLE job building them.

The New Athlon XP-M chips run very cool, heck add some voltage and a decent motherboard and get a pill more power from them. Seems like everybody is running those if you want a good running chip that overclocks very well. Or in alaptop it juts run at its default speed and very cool NOW.
