OK,

So I'm looking for pants, not jeans. I want something that i can wear out to a dinner with a sport coat and dress shirt. Not like overly formal, just something I could wear out for a decent casual dinner, or gala, or gathering. I have NEVER worn pants like this, everything I own is either jeans, or suit pants.

Are khakis what someone would wear in the type of situation I just described?? There's so many kinds. I'm looking at Macy's and there are SO many different types described. Casual, cargo&utility, dress, flat front, pleated, dockers. I am SO confused.

Maybe your mother can take you out and help you find a pair of big boy pants - then down to the Dairy Queen for a ice cream....

I hate that store.

Every time I go in there it's always... "You should diversify your wardrobe." and recommending me all kinds of different suits when I know what I'm looking for and I only want one. I hate repeating no, no, no, no. You'd think they'd pick up after the first few nos.

I'd be glad to help. Are you looking to buy online or at the actual store?

Wow. I've never gotten any of that kind of crap there. They ask what I'm interested in, then show me what they have to meet my criteria.
Sure, they sometimes show me stuff that's too "young" for me, but not often.

I'm looking online, I'd like a pair or two of something beige-ish and a pair of something darker brownish, and even a gray pair too.

I shop Kohls a lot. Check them out online and I can hook you up with coupons too.

i have a pair of Columbia khaki type pants that are real nice, light weight fabric. i do not remember the model name though. check out any place with a sale going on, most of the retailers end up selling about the same thing anyway. I like to shop for clothes at the store so i know exactly what i am getting and if they fit correctly.

That's why you get out of your mom's basement and physically go to a clothing store and try on different styles...that way, you can see how they look, how they look and fit on YOU, and (IMO) just as importantly, how they FEEL on you.

If you so choose, you can then write down the information on the brand and style you like and order on-line, but IMO, it's rarely worth the cost of shipping.

BTW, another favorite place for me is Land's End. You can see and try on some of their stuff in Sears, but only a small sampling of their products. ALL my "non-work" jeans come from there. Good quality, reasonable price.

For casual wear dress pants I've found two options work well.

Gap & Banana Republic

Yes you will pay more for these brands than say a discount store but trust me they're worth it. I normally go with gap pants so I would start there and yes Flat front as suggested above.

They have a very good fit and a nice, comfortable feel to them as well. You can usually find deals online and I believe there may be a % back from one of those "other" deal sites.

This is a must. Leave the house and try some on

ok, so flat front...I'll start there...and gap & BR.

also I'm not worried about fit, I know what size I take, I'm just trying to fit in, with some fancy pants.

Dockers are great for what you want. You can wear them with dress clothes or just a nice shirt. Very versatile. Plus they are comfy, durable, and cheap.

I've got a couple sets of dockers in different colors, they are pretty versatile. They are the perfect work/semi-casual pants. I personally prefer the pleated front but for it to look good you need to be willing to iron your pants after you wash them. If you don't want to deal with it, get a flat front.

I agree with the people telling you to get out of the house. Even if you're going to buy online figure out what your size is and try on a few different brands. It'll be best if you go with somebody else, preferably a girl.

Khakis suck.

Cloth pants suck in general unless your going the flat front metro casual look.

With a sportcoat, stick to wool slacks.

Avoid the Mens Wearhouse at all costs.

khaki is a color
chino is a rougher fabric, that is often khaki in color, and it is the more casual-non-dressy-non-jeans pants... and it has the taller cuff thing.. i dont think it is too comfortable

for casual stuff, dont get pleated. go for plain fronts. dockers non-iron is good. for styling i like express producer pants - just slightly low rise, not too baggy and not too slim - its a very good fit for slim-normal weight people
