HTTPme.COM is an excellent web host, in fact I have a dedicated server with them which isn't cheap but it's worth every penny.

How did you first hear about HTTPme/Dotable?

Repeat after me, you get what you pay for.

If you're going to stay in the $5/mo range you can continue to expect shoddy service. Move up to $10-15/mo for a shared hosting account or $30/mo and you get into more reliable premium web hosting.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this reply, but I'm going to post anyway.

Ross, there is a big difference between reliable shared hosting and a premium hosting solution. They do not compete with each other, nor can they be compared. There are plenty of good hosting solutions in the $5-10 range (if not less) with reliable servers and reputable support. The main difference between the $10 or $30 option (assuming both are with reputable, small companies) is how the more expensive host would be more willing to provide more detailed support services and solutions catered exactly to the needs of the client.

Saying that the cheaper host is generally "shoddy" is completely uncalled for. If one looks up the reviews for hosting companies such as HostPC or A Small Orange they'll see that the cheap hosts can easily provide support and services that rival the more expensive companies.

But I think we all know that the best hosts are the ones not mentioned. No one wants to divulge a great host and have to share their bandwidth....

I'm going to have to disagree with that statement as well. Every reputable host will have more than enough new servers to accommodate new clients, they will not overload existing servers just to get more signups. If anything, it would be good for the satisfied clients to spread the information about their host so that the host is able to expand and stay in business, rather than provide good service to a slowly diminishing client base.

I think I first heard about HTTPme from you, Rossman! Some research on WHT showed that Aussie Bob had started another company after selling HTTPme and its prices and features were right inline with what I was looking for.

absolutely agree here. hostpc is no where near "shoddy." joe goes to great lengths to provide good, cheap hosting.

again, completely agree. httpme is very well known... and running well. idologic was also very good.. haven't heard much lately, but then again, haven't had much time to look this stuff up.

in the end... you gotta ask yourself what you're hosting... are you running 100% of your business off this site? is this just for a small informational site? or maybe some sort of clan-site (friend of mine was asking about this just last week)?

you mentioned vBulletin... if you have a fairly active forum... then yeah, you might want to look into something like httpme... or talk to whoever you go with and explain your intent.. and if they're reputable, they'll help you out.
