I need a new pair of jeans

I haven't bought a pair of jeans in about 6 years. I lost some weight and ended up taking a couple pair of my brother's jeans a few years ago and haven't needed any since. I'm currently across the country on a temp assignment for work and I realized that I grabbed an old pair of jeans that are too big.

Looking for something for casual/weekend wear. Have to wear a shirt/tie to work, so no jeans there. My wife likes the boot cut Levi's I got off of my brother (527's), which I managed to leave at home. I'd normally have her pick out a pair for me, but she's on the other side of the country with my jeans.

I'm looking to spend south of $50 as my jeans inevitably see garage duty.

And please don't mention any style that can be described as "skinny". I'm 6'3"/230. :)

My brother certainly buys into that now. He just came back from California with several pair of Diesel jeans that probably cost more than his airfare.

i am a big fan of eddie bauer jeans. They seem to last me quite a long time and they fit well, all while being under $50.

Personally I just go to Kohl's and get whatever fits me best and looks the best on me. I don't really worry about what's hot or what's in style.

I thought so to, until I went to look. There's about 5 variations each of leg cut, rise, and fit. That makes for a bunch of different styles.

My wife said to stick with the Levi's 527 boot cut. And I'll just raid my brother's closet for the expensive jeans the next time I'm at his house.

Warning, BR jeans are cut a little funny compared to most other places. Even the boot cut is a little bit slim through the thigh, so it might be a little tight there. If you have any sort of athletic build in your upper leg, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for jeans. I wouldn't consider myself as having built legs by any means, but BR jeans are too tight there for my liking. In fact, when I went to try some on, I was wondering if I'd just gotten fat so I got a couple of 36's instead of the 34's I normally wear. The waist was way too loose and the thigh was still too tight.

Agreed on the Old Navy jeans though. They're not fit for the $200 jean thread, but I like 'em. I also bought a couple of X2 loose fit at Express, but that was a couple years ago, and really like those. I still wear them, although they're getting "vintage" fast :)

I say go with Rock & Republics, but you'll have sticker shock at the price. And i guess since you're married, no one cares anyway...

It's next to impossible to go back to regular jeans once you wear designer stuff though. I wore gap stuff for YEARS then finally bought a pair of R&Rs and True Religions and there was a HUGE difference. The texture, the fabric, the wash, the color...it's like driving a pinto versus a bentley. Not to mention the fact that everyone seems to notice you're not wearing shitty 80s style jeans anymore.
