Damn there's a lot of fraternity hate in this thread. I used to be kinda like that, but then I hung out with some fraternity guys for most of a semester. They wanted me to join, I decided not to, but they really were generally decent guys. They weren't drunk every night, hell, one of them didn't drink at all. Thier initiation rituals weren't disgusting crap like sticking things up thier asses and then eating them.
Maybe other fraternities are worse, but they don't all deserve the reputation they get.
All I can say is that every time I visit a fraternity, everyone is drunk. It's amusing to watch, sure..but kind of sad.
I think there are good frats, but most of them have a well-earned reputation.
Maybe not, but when three fraternities are kicked off my school's campus as a result of a hazing investigation by the city police and seven others are severely sanctioned, I have little faith in the entire institution of the Greek System.Originally posted by: notfred

1. Have you ever glanced 'down there' on a guy in the locker room?
2. Did you like it?
3. Would you do it again? No, I mean right now. NO, really, I've got nothing on under this towel.
That's good for you, but until you are in a fraternity, or actual even begin pledging, you have no right to comment. My fraternity did not haze me in any way, did not make me jump through hoops to join. In fact, if I couldn't join something I want to without being made to do stupid sh|t first, I simply wouldn't join.Originally posted by: jumpr

One anecdote from one location is not sufficient to pass judgment on a diverse nationwide community.
I joined a fraternity that had just been founded the previous semester, and was founded on the basis of no pledging, no hazing, but equal, respectful treatment of all.

Exactly. I saw pledging as a process to get to know my fellow pledgemates, and future (not current) brothers. During pledging we did things that built unity, and getting to know one another. If you realized you didn't like your brothers, pledging was the opportunity given to allow you to still leave without being committed as a brother.Originally posted by: Deeko
I still don't understand why you wouldn't have a pledge process? Not so much to make them do things(my fraternity does not haze either), but rather to get to know the guys better. I don't want to initiate guys I don't want to be a permanent member of the fraternity.
