You don't give bids to pledges, you give them to Rushees. And as far as I know, you can give as many as you want out. We gave bids this semester to everyone who we wanted to join.

haha we certainly couldn't do that. We had 150 people rush in the fall. We still had a pretty big pledge class though...about 24, 16 got initiated.

They wanted me to join, I decided not to, but they really were generally decent guys. They weren't drunk every night, hell, one of them didn't drink at all. Thier initiation rituals weren't disgusting crap like sticking things up thier asses and then eating them.

Maybe other fraternities are worse, but they don't all deserve the reputation they get.

I've been hanging out with some brothers this semester (actually started hanging out with them AFTER rush week) from one of the fraternities and they've been cool as hell. They've invited me to Happy Hour, to watch basketball games at the house, parties, poker nights, etc and I haven't had one bad night hanging out with them.

Their pledge process is nothing like the horror stories you used to hear.

As far as paying for your friends is concerned, that's not true at all. It's only a couple of hundred dollars a semester, and that money goes to everything from trips, to renting out bars, other social events, and everything else they do that you don't wind up paying a dime for. And the cost of everything far exceeds what you pay a semester.

So yea, unless you actually experience Greek life and give it an honest chance, try not to knock it so much.

Exactly. I saw pledging as a process to get to know my fellow pledgemates, and future (not current) brothers. During pledging we did things that built unity, and getting to know one another. If you realized you didn't like your brothers, pledging was the opportunity given to allow you to still leave without being committed as a brother.

We have at least a whole semester to get to know guys (and vice versa) before they decide whether they'll even go through rush at all. The way things go at this tiny school (500 students) it only takes a few weeks before guys know what they're going to do fraternity-wise. As for the new brothers we have a Brotherhood Program in place of any pledging program, overseen by the BDD (Bro'hood Dev. Dir.). The whole scenario is not perfect, nor can I fairly say it's any better having not experienced the alternatives myself, but it's what we've got and what we do. Sure, we've had to kick a guy out now and again. But we learn and get better at pre-rush scrutiny all the time.

Weird.

And geez, what school are you at that theres only 500 students? I'm surprised theres even a greek life system there....we're not a huge school with a fairly small greek program and we've probably got about that many in fraternities alone...

Yea. I agree. My ex frat didnt haze. Kinda pissed they didnt. Ant it sucks cause no one ever asked crazy questions like some of you posted other than me and people used to tell me i was an ass for doing so. I hated my fraternity and that is why i disafiliated. Frat's are gay, at least mine was

I was at school, I'm done there now ;) I was at Lyon College. Each of the three frats typically has 9-18 guys in any given semester. The three sororities are bigger, though one was only founded last year so it's likely not as big as the other two, more established ones.

1) If someone from the fraternity accidentally walks in on you and your gf, would you be terribly opposed to them joining in?

Yea thanks...apparently we blew everyone out in winter rush, we had about 35-40 guys, everyone else had maybe 10...I know TKE had to cancel an event cuz so few people showed.

heh, funny you should mention parties, at our last meeting our president brought up trying to set up a social with sigep....I'm not really sure why.

Why?!?!?!? I get it. So you can steal the greek week cup when everyone is out partying. You guys are clever. Naw, but yea parties suck around school, maybe cause its winter but every weekend it seems like a ghost town. I end up hitting up the bars and spending like 100 bones a night. Im looking to get a phat party house since im getting kicked from my current residence of 3200 summer. Hopefully i can help the casue with my new place and get these parties kickin again

hahah nah, we'll win that fair and square in may, just like we already won IFC cup...

Yea I agree parties have definitely been weak lately, I go to the bars during the week when they have specials but its just too damn expensive on weekends...I don't know whats going on with this campus, maybe its because the PVCA are nazi's this year and had every house party broken up on the fall. gay.

we didn't do tug of war right last year. we had big guys rather than strong per pound guys. I'll be on it this year, it'll be all over.

I hate the PVCA, even if no neighbors are complaining, they go around and call the cops if they hear a party. If you live on summer or winter st, its pointless to even have 5 people over. I had to sign some agreement with them for my new apartment, its ridiculous, it says if any neighbors EVER complain about noise I can be evicted, no parties, no kegs, so on...I realize they're trying to make this a 'nice community', but its not, its a college campus, get used to it.

I can't take credit for this, and I don't remember the source, but I think it would be appropriate...

1) Say you went camping with a friend and got blinding drunk. The next morning you wake up and find a condom in your butt. Do you tell anyone? (answer will probably be NO)

.
.
.

4) Want to go camping?
