I must say, I am VERY impressed with Windows XP

Thanks NSF4 and Noriaki,

Your guys info was very helpful. I didn't mean to assume that the skinnable gui in WinXP will be as bad as windows blinds - but I've sort of been jaded by things in the past. I've come to this realization: the cooler I make things look, the more problems I end up having and the more resources I end up wasting. That my not be the case with WinXP but I wanted to make sure 🙂.

Regarding the security rumors:
I seriously doubt WinXP can do anything covert to my 2+ gigs of mp3s. As long as WMP8 plays DiVX and doesn't look as ugly as WMP7, it is all good.

I would also mention that even though WinXP is in beta, I wouldn't be suprised at how stable it is - since it is just being built on an already rock solid OS (Win2K). They would have to gimp something up to make it not a stable beta 🙂.

All in all, I'm not sure I can justify spending money on a new gui (seems like the only feature that I would want).

Well, just installed RC1 and haven't seen much difference (little things here and there), but it is still solid as heck.

I wonder how much it will cost at release?:Q

<< Therefore, a comparison of the Teletubbies look-and-feel to the WinXP interface look-and-feel does not in fact make any statements about the intended target audience. It simply notes the similarity in the colorful, shiny, round, giddy design principles. >>

Well, someone else was saying that they borrowed the interface from KDE. Now what do you say about KDE users?

I've used KDE, and I've seen numerous Windows XP screenshots, and my professional opinion is that Windows XP is more gay than KDE by at least three orders of magnitude.

(For the uninitiated, that translates to "thousand times as gay&quot😉

Whoever compared KDE to XP obviously used neither.

Welll... I dont know.. I can see why people say that..

The XP Metallic screenshots look alot like the default KDE GUI appearance.

Also this is a good comparison between the XP GUI and MacOS X:

<< I was talking about XP Luna aka what 90% of XP users will be using because they have no idea how to change it. >>

Yeah... although... If that is what 90% of XP users will be using, then 90% of the users of XP will think that it sucks..

Frankly LUNA its the GUI equivent of CLOWN FACE PAINT if you ask me... color for colors sake... its as bad GUI design as using flashing fonts on a web page.

ST4RCUTTER,

If you're running W2K and are happy with it, there's not a whole lot of compelling reasons to upgrade to XP.

The Remote Desktop is nice. I can have XP running on my work machine, then from home, I can VPN into the office and "hijack" my office machine's desktop, so it's as good as being at the console of my work machine. There are also lots of enhancements to Terminal Services. (Remote Desktop is a subset of Terminal Services.) Citrix is probably scared.

XP has built-in CD burning. Yeah, I know. Woo hoo.

XP has a new user interface. If you know how to get around in W2K, you'll hate it, and the first thing you'll do is go back to the classic interface.

XP will have an advanced system recovery tool that most home users will never use.

XP will have driver rollback, which could be nice.

I'll edit this with other stuff as I think of it.

I actually like the Luna/Metallic GUI. Looks great to me.

Don't you just love it when people ASSume thing? 😉 I've been using Win2k for a year and a half and it took me an hour to get used to WinXP's GUI. It is much more efficient to me than Win2k's and I like how the start bar keeps my frequently used proggies on hand. Beats having to scroll through the program menu or clutter up my desktop. YOU may not like it, but that doesn't mean that everyone else will despise it as well.

I'm glad to know that you have found comfort and happiness in using a gay GUI. As we all know, a gay lifestyle is a valid and wonderful choice. But keep it the hell away from me.

Where are the mods when you need them??😉 Anyway, I'm glad to see that you are so insecure that when someone doesn't agree with you that you have to resort to calling them gay.

How pitiful and shallow people have become these days.

<< you have to resort to calling them gay. >>

I'm not calling you gay. I'm calling the Luna GUI gay.

It looks like a transvestite with three pounds of makeup on its face.

But if you like your GUI to look like a transvestite, more power to you.

If dual processors are your thing then don't do XP. Windows NT, 2000 or 2002 (aka XP for business) is what you should be looking for.

<< If dual processors are your thing then don't do XP. Windows NT, 2000 or 2002 (aka XP for business) is what you should be looking for. >>

Why? XP Pro supports dual processors.

I'm not presuming, from his statement it seems as though he isn't aware that XP Pro supports dual processors. If you can think of another reason he would say this, feel free to share it.

BTW - I noticed you didn't answer my original question, is there a reason??

By XP, he was referring to the version of XP that most users will be able to afford. I suspect that XP Pro will be priced at just about a thousand dollars, if Microsoft can get away with it.

BTW - I noticed that you always act like a complete asshole, is there a reason?

Um, right...XP Pro will be in line with the cost of Win2K Pro, which is around $200 I believe.

<< BTW - I noticed that you always act like a complete asshole, is there a reason? >>

I think you have me confused with yourself.

BTW-Anyone looking for an example of this, just scroll up the thread to read his comments on XP's GUI.

<< Hans, how do you presume to know who knows what? >>

We can certainly presume to know what you know by reading your glorious posting style methinks.

<< BTW - I noticed that you always act like a complete asshole, is there a reason? >>

Maybe you need to reread your posts, at least I can see who the real A$$hole(s) are in this thread. I think Hans may be onto something actually, and my gawd NFS4 should get a medal for the level of restraint he has shown for the amount of shameless thread crapping zealots in HIS thread.
