I must be getting old; I don't understand streamers

I'm in my 30s and don't see the draw either. I have no interest in watching other people play a game when I can play the exact same game with more enjoyment/obvious control rather same other random person off the internet. I can't imagine being into it even if it was a thing when I was a kid as I would get bored watching someone else play.

Not sure if it matters but I'm not a sports fan either, get bored watching people do things I guess.

PewDiePie used to do 50mm hits per video.
He has levelled off at 3mm hits per video.

Are you stating that general youtube viewers have mostly converted to watching live streams instead of recorded/edited videos?

Or do you not realize what the OP was asking?

I've only watched a few live streams. I do however watch pre-recorded stuff. The only 1 I watch regularly is Robbaz. He's pretty funny. A lot of times I watch to see a game I might be interested in buying to get more info. Sometimes I will buy a game based on the video but then I don't like the game. Watching someone play it was more fun than actually playing it...which is weird.

I'm saying PewDiePie is making less money than before, that's all. Figure $15k per video?

Streams are annoying. Usually I want to watch a to the point video about what I'm interested in. That might be a review, tactics, etc. I don't want a rambling stream of consciousness video. I just don't have the time to sit through that shit. About the only time I've picked up a stream is when I wanted to look at unedited play video when I felt the reviews didn't quite tell me what I wanted to know.

I guess it's answer B then. What you're saying may be true, but is not related to what the OP was asking about. He's wondering about live streaming, like on Twitch. PewDiePie does Youtube videos that are recorded/edited, unlike live video streams that we're discussing in this thread, which are, well, live.

Blizzard actually has a feature now on the Blizzard launcher that allows you to stream Blizzard games (WoW, Diablo, Overwatch, Hearthstones, HotS) directly to Facebook Live. It's making it ten times easier to live stream your games now than before.

I also do not understand streamers.
I also do not understand people who donate to streamers.

I told my best friend that we should stream our sessions a long time ago when we used to play the original CS Source. She was like no, im camera shy... even tho i told her we would not show face that much... just our reactions and noobs ranting a stream when we pile drove though them would be enough cake.

I regret not pushing her harder. I bet her channel would of made millions by now.

Damn! You missed a great opportunity! You could have been a biggie in the gaming industry now. When was it that you had this idea?

There are a few Streamers I can stand to watch. My favourite is Quill18. That said, I still find Streamed gameplay to be annoying. The Streamers get too distracted by interacting with the viewers which interferes with the gameplay and sometimes gets kinda awkward for other reasons.

I've enjoyed watching the final rounds of StarCraft 2 tournaments, or the occasional vid where something really funny/clever happened during gaming, but otherwise? Unlikely.

it was back in like 2005. I remember the videocard i put in her system so she could play CS:source with good frame rates... it was a 6800GT

oh man... that was a very long time ago.... i think it was getting all active in setting up my first watercooled systems.

I have only watched a couple of streamers myself and only for a few minutes. I do admit that some of these guys are very witty and funny. They can take an otherwise boring stream and turn it into a laugh out loud fun time. I mean if they can get paid for playing video games then more power to them. I wish I had the online charisma and voice to do this but I just don't, nor do I have the time.

I don't really get most of the social media stuff. I mean I get it but I think most of it is lame and a waste of time. I do FB just for family stuff but even that I dislike. twitter is stupid too. It could come down to a generations thing but I see plenty of people my age and older doing it.

Way, way less. Try $100 or $200. The gold rush for youTubers is over. PewDiePie is going to have to get a real job. Google is no longer subsidizing people for YouTube. Plus, people like him who lack dynamic talent tend to run out of steam and lose audience rapidly over time. Just look at his numbers. Plus, he's probably not as motivated now that he's making less money on YouTube than someone working at Home Depot in the lumber department.

I've heard anywhere from $1 to $5 per 1000 views, based on ad engagement. He's 3mm per video. No way he's only getting $200 for that.

Modern games have become so dumbed down and boring you need someone like markipliar screaming randomness into the mic to make the experience even slightly interesting.

Woah! You guys would have been celebrities in the gaming world by now!

I stopped by a buddies house last week and he was watching some bimbo cosplayer (who wasn't in any costume nor naked). This was the first that I saw Streaming and hte money that people are throwing at it. I kinda get it, but I still think it's stupid. I can't remember how much the girl was making, but I do remember being amazed at how much it was. It made me a bit depressed as I couldn't help but look at those guys throwing money at her as a bit sad. Personally, I think I should jsut go to a strip club if I want to give some random woman money, but to each their own.

I have no idea why people watch these, but for the few streamers who can get enough of a following built up it does look quite profitable.

This is what "adult" versions of such streaming is for when you want to stay home with no pants. 😀

I see people with TV.Twitch or whatever in front of their name all the time. If someone wants to televise me wrecking their ass, that's cool with me. That's how I feel about twitchers anyway.
