I miss Fall, the season

That's brutal, we hardly get that even in middle of summer.

I hate fall here now days though. All it does is rain. Looking forward to when it drops below zero on a more permanent basis so I can actually do outdoor projects again. I rather work in cooler weather than get soaked in rain.

Its been in the 90's for +80% of the days since late May. F-ing ridiculousness. I guess someone might say I should be thankful it ain't Death Valley, which is true, but the humidity in the mornings and evenings makes it hard to just breath.

Our weather usually takes a dive this weekend and the forecast agrees with me. Temps are going to drop 25 freedom degrees on Friday with lows around 40.

Might be the last week of 90s in Texas, if the prophecy holds. Looks to dip into 80s for a few days before falling further into the 70s next week. Sudden transition to fall.

Last few weeks have been comfortable. Dry air and low 90s = easy summer.

Normal season really. I think fall is the favorite season for every Texan. Basically a collective sigh of relief.

be glad you aren't in Montana...

4 feet deep: Historic 'winter' storm means September snow day for kids in Browning, Montana

I moved to Montana last september for a 3 month stay and it snowed about 2 inches the night we got there. I thought that was strange. 4 feet is insane.

On Saturday it was in the low-mid 70s with 20-30% humidity. Now it's back to being in the 60s during the day and 50s at night.

At least it's low humidity. But this high heat is pretty brutal. I'm trying to do some outdoor home repairs I postponed so I could do it in the cooler fall weather. But instead of 70s and 80s, everyday it's like mid 90s. It's pretty crazy.

We had a site isolation this morning up north. Turns out there was a snow storm that covered the microwave dish.

Looking forward to snow here. Sick of the rain, it's just so gloomy and depressing.

We've been getting nights below freezing once in a while, but still too warm for this time of year. If it's above freezing, it means it rains.

I jinxed myself by complaining. The first floor AC iced over. Either the compressor isn't kicking over, the condensation pump ain't working or low refrigerant. Barely any air flowing through that floor's registers so I'm guessing the AC coil froze over. I discovered this about 8 PM this evening and shut the system off. The first floor is the least used floor as the TV room and theater are in the basement and the bedrooms on the second floor. And then after 6 PM came the NOAA reporting for weather in my area went out. LOL

Turn the system to fan only to de-ice the evaporator.

Also don't run the system too hard. Set the temp at 74 or higher.

If the Freon is low then it needs to be charged up.

Fall used to be my favorite season ... seems like we don't get those "crisp" Autumn days anymore we go straight from warm to cold wind.

The first floor system is actually over-sized. When this tract home was built the Andy Lewis installed HVAC systems were installed backwards. The large family room and foyer are completely open to the second floor, which means their summer heat load transfers to the second floor. Only the AC coils were installed backwards and the first floor got the large unit. Since then the second floor unit was replaced with a properly sized unit and the first floor unit has work like a workhorse and had never failed in 19 years. I guess it is about time.

Waiting on my fave HVAC guy to come over. I shut the system off over night to allow for the evap coil to melt. Will leave it off until post repair. In the mean times, this Fall weather is brital. I woke up this morning to the ice maker in my Whirlpool Conquest ( model gd25dixhb02) not working. Jinxy, your beloved bastard! I know I can remove it as a complete assembly and there must be a model number on the maker itself. Parts catalogs only list individual pieces that make up the assembly, but it looks like I could get a replacement unit off of Amazon.

This Hobbit Second Summer is going to be the death of me.

You need to hear my ice maker anecdote. Back in July, mine stopped working. I started troubleshooting the issue and it turns out the ice maker issues can be caused by a handful of things. The line could be frozen, the freezer sensors may not tell the ice maker it's cold enough to make ice...so it doesn't bother to kick the fill solenoid on... My Kenmore fridge turns out to be manufactured by the dreaded LG corporation (I was stuck with that model due to size limitations in my kitchen)

After thawing my fridge out to make sure the water line wasn't frozen, I started noticing the fridge wasn't cooling as it should. I could hear the freezer to fridge fans coming on and the defroster cycle appeared to be working correctly, but the drain was still icing up in the freezer pan. For about $50, I replaced the 2 temp sensors and the defrost sensor (that replaced the old timer circuits). That got it back running again in the correct cycles. I believe, the one sensor that failed was actually a $7 part in the fridge side that caused the bottom to ice up.

Moral of the story, ice makers are usually subject to problems that may start elsewhere.

We will finally get to our average temperature on Saturday. The next two days are supposed to break the record for highs.

We've been above 90 for most of September (I think like 25 out of 30 days), and no rain at all. It's been miserable working on outside projects.

I guess I won't complain so much about all the rain here at least it's not a bazilion degrees of insane heat like some of you, which sucks for doing anything outside. Whether you're being soaked by rain or your own sweat it comes up to the same thing, it's miserable!
