My long list of stories from work continues after #1 the guy who threatened my life and tried to vandalize my car and #2 the guy with $50,000 In fake travler's checks
I was in the store helping out with the repairs since I didn't have any appointments to go to. We were doing a virus removal on a computer. I was comming up with ALOT of items, almost all of them from one folder. I decided to take a look at the folder in question and it was a porn folder - a big one. Ones with names like "13yr old" "xxxPRETEENxxx" and the like - a lot of them. So its company policy (I had to look it up) that in situations like this we call the police immediatley and turn the computer over to them without looking at the items in question. Apparently this is becuase if I were to look at them and make the decision "No, she is definately not 18" then the police can use that to get a warrent immediatley - but also opens us up to ALOT of liability issues.
So Police officer Scott came and we had a chat. He couldn't activley look at them due to legal issues either. We talked about how he (the customer) could get the pictures, the fact that they were being activly shared through his p2p program (Limewire no less) and alot of non incident related stuff. He called in Detective Jones (once he knew the claim was legit) and they took the laptop to a judge to see if they could get a warrent to search his computer and - most likely - arrest him.
One way or the other we will know tomorrow what happens and I will be sure to update
UPDATE: So - I learned that cops aren't very good at returning calls. Anyway, yesterday I finally got a call back from the officer. They got the warrant for the arrest, the arrest was made and it sounds like they will be going to trial. Needless to say, we won't see that laptop again.
I guess its time to paint that third silhouette on the side of my computer
