All his lawyer has to do is reference that case and he's off the hook.

Don't worry about it LoKe. Waggy knows everything in this world, everything.

everything? nope. just know what i have experianced.

The trojans I've encountered simply download or create jpegs with these names; they don't actually download child pornography.

shrug. not sure. just remember reading a case (wich i linked) of a guy getting off saying it was a trojan.

also remember reading about how some trojans put a "back door" on the computer wihc allows it to be taken over. wich they then can use as a FTP/dump site.

though my knowledge is limited on such. just go by what i have read.

man accused of storing child pornography on his computer has been cleared after it emerged that his computer had been infected by a Trojan horse, which was responsible for transferring the images onto his PC.

Julian Green, 45, was taken into custody last October after police with a search warrant raided his house. He then spent a night in a police cell, nine days in Exeter prison and three months in a bail hostel. During this time, his ex-wife won custody of his seven year old daughter and possession of his house.

This is thought to be the second case in the UK where a "Trojan defence" has been used to clear someone of such an accusation. In April, a man from Reading was found not guilty of the crime after experts testified that a Trojan could have been responsible for the presence of 14 child porn images on his PC.

Trojan horses can be used to install a back door on a PC, allowing an attacker to freely access the computer. Using the back door, a malicious user can send pictures or other files to the victim's computer or use the infected machine to access illegal Web sites, while hiding the intruder's identity. Infected machines can be used for storing files without the knowledge of the computer's owner.

Kevin Hogan, senior manager at Symantec Security Response, told ZDNet UK that he has known Trojans to pretend to be a game, picture and even a Windows folder. "It is technically possible for a Trojan to set up someone's computer as a proxy machine. So you see a folder on your desktop, double click it and it executes."

According to Hogan, a Trojan back door can usually be dealt with by using an up-to-date antivirus software or a personal firewall.

Green told The Evening Standard that the experience wrecked his life because he was treated like a depraved sex fiend. "I had never been in trouble before. In cases like this it is not innocent until proved guilty, but the other way around," he said.

I knew i read it someplace. it happened in the UK so it wouldnt be of any help to anyone in the uS.

The story is crap.

A man accused of storing child pornography on his computer has been cleared after it emerged that his computer had been infected by a Trojan horse, which was responsible for transferring the images onto his PC.

They say that and then only detail about how it's possible to use the defense. They don't detail how the defense actually proved that the trojan was responsible (which that sentence implies).

Had a similar gig just out of college. The first time we came across a PC with kiddie porn on it, we called the local police. They sent an officer out who maintained that since we had the computer, we were the ones breaking the law, and were we admitting to having kiddie porn?

After that, we never called the police about it again.

Good Luck. Porn is fine as long as it's legal. If he was in to kiddie porn, he deserves to go to jail. Thanks for doing your job.

You're missing what I'm saying. I'm saying he may have had a valid defense, which the article implies by saying that the computer was indeed infected by a Trojan that transferred the files, but the article doesn't explain how the defense went about proving that.

The article (story) is crap. His defense may not have been.

I've actually had that happened, my ftp server was infected with something and I lost 20gb of free space. I used treesize and found a hidden folder in the root drive called "Recycle", and it contained 20gb of porn and movies. Only way I found out about this was my school disabled internet jack to my server and sent a violations letter to me.

Yea, someone installed a trojan on my computer too when my ISP sent me a letter 7 years ago regarding illegal filesharing.

That suggests the cop was part of a kiddie porn ring, maybe even the same one as the customer. So you should have called the FBI since the cop's superior could have been in on it too.

The closest situation I have ever had was with teenagers downloading porn and infecting their parents computer with viruses. I usually point out to the parents the likely sources of the infection and the porn since it is their computer, and give recommendations on how to stop it.

I have also had at least a half dozen unique occasions where a guy would call me in a panic wanting me to clean off his computer so his wife wouldn't catch him. One of those calls was even followed 20 minutes later from his wife, wanting me to check the computer to see if he had been downloading porn :) I refused to take that service call and recommended counseling.

And no, I have never found kiddie porn on a system, but that isn't to say some of the stuff wasn't nasty.

I hope the person in question was my ex-roommate. One day I went onto his PC (with his permission) to burn some songs and saw he had crap like that on his PC.

We promptly asked him to move out (we weren't getting along anyway) and he agreed. I contacted the FBI online and an anti-child porn activist group and nothing has been done.

Now I come to find out this guy is married and has a daughter. I shudder to think what he might do to that poor girl.

So - I learned that cops aren't very good at returning calls. Called and left a message asking for a call back like 4 times (the computer was still listed in our system and we get audited on that) Anyway, yesterday I finally got a call back from the officer. They got the warrant for the arrest, the arrest was made and it sounds like they will be going to trial. Needless to say, we won't see that laptop again.

I guess its time to paint that third silhouette on the side of my computer

Again, horribly unlikely for someone to be that stupid. I know there are a lot of dumb people in this world, but no one would willingly give up a computer with child porn as the damn wallpaper.

I beg to differ.

This is from a day or two ago. A teacher nonetheless.
