Arguably the most amazing political moment I've had so far which beat out voting for the first time, talking with(not just a "hi") Chuck Grassley at my precinct caucus in January, meeting Bill Frist(at the caucus too), and meeting howard dean when he came to Ankeny(yes, I shook his hand too - I'm not that rude😉 )
Ok, so he doesn't know me from Joe, but it was still cool to meet the Vice President.
I volunteered to work the event which was cool in it's own right. Lots of security around. I got to meet a some of the press folks too. There was one lady from MSNBC there and a bunch of locals. I got to meet Steve Pope who works as a photographer for AP which was pretty cool too.
Besides the speech and such one of the best parts was seeing the half dozen protesters trying to get on TV. I'm not sure if the local news got any tape of them or not but it was a pretty dismal turnout for the protesters. We on the other hand had a great turnout for this "invite" event. Over a thousand showed up and from my estimate it was more like 1300 but who am I...I only looked at hundreds of tickets...
Lots of red meat for sure, but I actually learned a bit about Cheney today. Not only is he not the hardass grumpy old guy he looks like on TV - he's actually pretty personable it seems. Now I've never really liked or disliked the man but after seeing him today and now having gone back and looked at the history of the guy - he's not the big monster the press and the left tries to make him out to be.
Anyway - I got to meet him today and thought I'd share. Do some reading on who Cheney is and his history - you might be surprised to find out he's not a monster😉
