I make popcorn in a paper bag in the microwave. How do you make it?

I buy bulk popcorn kernels at a local supermakret, the kind that sells bulk food in a "server yourself write the # of the bin on the twist tie" manner. A large bag has lasted almost 2 years so far, I rarely make popcorn. When I pop it I just place it in any old brown paper shopping bag and hit popcorn on the microwave. Then melt butter and salt over to taste. Makes great popcorn. How do you usually make/eat yours?

Microwave popcorn. The type that comes in flat packages usually pre seasoned.

If I have kernels, I like to put it in a pot.

Me either; I might try it.

The prepacked microwave popcorn is horrible compared to pan-popped.

I don't make it that much, but bought a box of the microwave stuff from Costco a few years ago and will have one here and there no rare occasions.

I probably eat more popcorn at the movies than I do at home and even then, that's rare.

Yup. The way popcorn should be cooked. A little oil in the bottom of a pot, add kernels, shake while popping. I go through more than ten pounds of popcorn a year.

Locut0s, I'm highly suspicious of you. The fact you use kernels and not prepackaged microwave crap gave me hope. But based on the omission of the "pot on stove" technique from your poll, I fear you may not actually be a popcorn lover.

Pot 'n' stove. That pre-fab microwave schtuff is nasty (as are microwave ovens). Air poppers dry it out. Just say no to needless packaging, branding, and gadgetry.

I've noticed the exact opposite. The microwave popcorn is fluffier and better tasting whereas pan popped corn is bland and sucks.

I never microwave popcorn. I use either of two methods, and the last couple of batches, method 1.

1. Popcorn machine (made a batch yesterday for the Super Bowl)

2. In a 3 quart covered stainless steel pot. Put in a little oil, the same amount of popcorn as is used in my popcorn machine, put on a medium to full flame and occasionally shake the pot violently until I hear pops. Then rotate the pot with the handle back and forth quickly with occasional violent shakes until the popping all but stops.

Either method, pour into large bowl. If method one, add melted butter and salt. If method two, just salt.

I do microwave popcorn... the only way I'd change is if someone taught me a way to get movie theatre style without needing to buy some wacked out device... till then, Orville Reddenbacher's Movie Theatre popcorn is fine.

At home, I've only ever had microwave popcorn. I've never seen anyone I know make popcorn any other way either. I just think ATOT is weird most of the time.
