Cuts down immediately on the number of AMD and Nvidia fanboys trolling each other's threads with pages and pages of derailment.

Wouldn't mind seeing that in the CPU forum as well.

It's not a discussion if everyone agrees with you. It's just a bunch of people patting themselves on the back.

meh aside from encouraging bumping of 5 year old posts, this is one of my annoyances with city-data's forums... so many sub forums for states that get hardly any traffic anyways... I like it all lumped together. There was not enough traffic to warrant the change.. they are trying to stop fanboys but the fanboys will just go on posting in the subforums anyways.

Disagreed. This isn't a Philosophical or Political issue. Video Cards are Physical things, that operate within certain parameters, with certain capabilities, and sometimes experience certain problematic issues. That's plenty of reason for Discussion.

Flamewars are not Discussion. They are just verbose masturbation meant to bring people to climax.

The only problem is that there are hardly any help threads made in the Graphics card section. People apparently go elsewhere for that type of help.

The Mods have given us ample chances to keep things civil. Do you really think they enjoy having to temporarily Lock threads and clean them from time to time?

Nope, we couldn't behave and because of that we get this solution. It is the best solution to promote real Discussion.

Frankly, they don't need to be so aggressive. If they don't want people to argue, they are just going to send people to other places. That seems to be all these forums are good for anyway. People go other places for help.

If they are trying to change their image by aggressive locking, it isn't working.

The only traffic they get seems to be of the discussion/arguing type. If you remove that, what will they have left?

Again, what you call "discussion/arguing" is just Trolling. If you really want Discussion, you shouldn't want the Trolling.

They have tried everything else already. It wasn't working. If anything they have been too passive.

This won't work either. Where do you think all the regulars will settle at? The AMD and Nvidia sections why die off.

Yeah, AT doesn't get anywhere near the traffic to warrant splitting.

It's only crazy now because both camps are releasing high end cards at the same time. That hasn't happened in years. A year from now when AMD has nothing new, and nothing on the horizon, that subforum will be dead. Between major releases, the traffic dies. This subforum split is shortsighted and will prove to be a terrible idea in the long run. A messageboard is nothing without users. The admins should have polled the video forums posters before doing something like this.

Many of these discussion or trolling as you call it, has some very interesting information you would not get had it not existed.

Maybe they do want the forums to die. If that is what they want, this is how you do it.

the change is horrible.....makes it more work to browse for info.....especially for owners or those interested in both brands. Its not going to change anything as far as threadcrapping, flaming etc etc

I gotta tell you, years ago when the forums originally split into all the sub-forums, I was ALL for it. I thought it would be a great idea but in practice I've found it's really not.

I'll explain (what has already been explained ad nauseam, but w/e, it's a +1 I guess)

1) Traffic. This site just does not have enough activity to warrant gobs of sub-forums. Look at the mess over at [H] for a fine example.

2) Drama. I mean who doesn't enjoy a bit of drama? "YAGT" or fanboi drama for examples. Once this stuff is split up, not as many people view, or interact at all with these threads, leaving only the most hardcore arguing amongst themselves.

3) I have a few friends on this forum and "the good ole days" has been brought up often. I honestly just don't think to click on "Love and Relationships" that often and I'm sure I'm missing tons of great "YAGT" threads that we all (well, most of us?) enjoyed in years past.

4) This one is tough to quantify. I guess with just so many sub-forums, it's just pretty lonely most of the time. Just not as many eyeballs on as many threads as there should be, IMHO of course.

I know the mods here have a tough job. The rules are so tight and consistency can be tough, but they are all trying. In my opinion, in addition to fewer sub-forums, the "personal attack" rules should be slackened somewhat, both to give the mods a break, and to make heated discussions slightly more interesting.

Just my $.02

I agree, I've probably been involved in a flame or three over the years, but nothing blatant, I think I've only received one warning/infraction in more than ten years. So not what would be called a troublemaker. Personally I think the forums would be better off if they went a little more lax, everyone loves a good flame war as long as it stays within reasonable bounds. To be honest, I miss some of our more famous trolls. That's not to say some of them shouldn't have been banned, but I'm not privy to why they were so some of that may very well be justified. I do know though after well more than a decade here, the forums aren't as entertaining as the old days.

It's obvious that several of you do not understand what was done here, or why.

Those of you looking for Video Cards & Graphics will be advised that it is still here, and has a new name: Graphics Cards -- General Discussion. Continue to participate there, and disregard the other changes, as they more than likely won't apply to you.

Was there an announcement or sticky? I looked before I ever made my original post but didn't see anything explaining it.

N/M.....I just found the sticky, not sure if it was there earlier or not. Anyways, I still don't like the change and it's obvious most of the others who spoke up didn't either. It just fragments the general topic of GPUs too much. Is this a done deal or is it open for discussion/change in the event it becomes obvious the members don't like it?

That seems true. How about an explanation?

It would seem that just looking at the titles of the sub-forums should give you a clue.

Detailed discussions would go in the appropriate sub-forum; no trolls desired.

For those that get their kicks out of trolling; the VC&G or Graphics Card - General are there.

It would be nice to see the Mods slap the trolls down also. They know who is who by now.
