Detailed discussions would go in the appropriate sub-forum; no trolls desired.

For those that get their kicks out of trolling; the VC&G or Graphics Card - General are there.

Now that's the way it should be, I like it.!

I think this is a positive change. Not sure why all the hate. The reasons stated don't counter the absurdity that was the previous state of affairs.

And having Displays broken out is a huge positive.

I gotta tell you, years ago when the forums originally split into all the sub-forums, I was ALL for it. I thought it would be a great idea but in practice I've found it's really not.

I'll explain (what has already been explained ad nauseam, but w/e, it's a +1 I guess)

1) Traffic. This site just does not have enough activity to warrant gobs of sub-forums. Look at the mess over at [H] for a fine example.

2) Drama. I mean who doesn't enjoy a bit of drama? "YAGT" or fanboi drama for examples. Once this stuff is split up, not as many people view, or interact at all with these threads, leaving only the most hardcore arguing amongst themselves.

3) I have a few friends on this forum and "the good ole days" has been brought up often. I honestly just don't think to click on "Love and Relationships" that often and I'm sure I'm missing tons of great "YAGT" threads that we all (well, most of us?) enjoyed in years past.

4) This one is tough to quantify. I guess with just so many sub-forums, it's just pretty lonely most of the time. Just not as many eyeballs on as many threads as there should be, IMHO of course.

I know the mods here have a tough job. The rules are so tight and consistency can be tough, but they are all trying. In my opinion, in addition to fewer sub-forums, the "personal attack" rules should be slackened somewhat, both to give the mods a break, and to make heated discussions slightly more interesting.

Just my $.02

yeah, these are really good points. I'm sure there are interesting topics that I would participate in if I saw them, but I never see them, and it's not worth the trouble to visit each subforum to check just in case

The reason probably so much traffic has left is because of the constant flame wars. Nobody could go to AT VC&G forum and post a question without it instantly devolving into a fanboy war by post 5. Drives people away. This might be a way to get discussions going without this happening. Time will tell if it's a fail or not.

Cuts down immediately on the number of AMD and Nvidia fanboys trolling each other's threads with pages and pages of derailment.

Wouldn't mind seeing that in the CPU forum as well.

Tip:

Derailment and trolling are not problems of site structure.

They are problems of USERS...and/or mods.

Changing a good and meaningful site structure to avoid derailments and trolling is WEAK, because the smart way to do it would be

a) warn or ban people who troll and derail
or
b) mods working to cleanup messed-up threads

And not make a silly Nvidia/AMD seperation because of derailing/trolling which would happen in ANY forum where people are discussing a subject, whether its video cards, politics or religion, whatever...

I find this "solution" poor and a turnoff. And, by the way...a "lively" and possibly even occasionally heated debate "AMD vs. Nvidia" is actually nothing negative. Why else would I visit forums?
