It's just your ears telling you your previous set up was garbage. There is better speakers/setups out there that will give you ANOTHER jump like you just experienced.

I have Logitech Z5500's... looks like they are using the same speaker in the satellites in your system. They are the weakest link in Logitech's set up, in my opinion. The sub I have is very boomy, but fairly clear for a big ported box. But take a couple of your speakers and upgrade them to a cheap 2-way bookshelf speaker, you'll get a good jump in clarity. I'm no audiophile and would never pay the prices those people pay, but even so the difference from their single driver to a speaker with a separate tweeter and woofer is night and day. Enjoy them, Logitch makes decent stuff, I've been using my Z5500's for probably pretty close to 10 years now.

Is that the 4b? Always wanted to try out a Bryston setup.
How do you like the Asus, have you ever tried an external DAC instead?
My setup:
AR Classic Model 18's / or restored AR-2ax's
Yamaha MX-2 amp
Opera Consonance c100 as the pre amp
Kingrex DAC( can't remember the model)

I have some small Polk bookshelf speakers I bought long ago. Speaker technology has not really good much better in the past 30+ years. Prices have come down for good stuff but that is about it.

Hardly use them though, I have some wireless Plantronics headphones I bought for $50 many years ago. They sound good enough.

Yes, Bryston 4B, non SST. Pretty amazing amp. There are better amps out there of course, but the 4B is pretty hard to beat by any mainstream consumer gear. I am of the opinion that many people do not place as much importance on proper amplification as they should if they want to expect quality sound. Part of the problem is that most or all consumer gear just has a volume knob and if you turn it past where you should the amp is going to sound poor, but people do it anyway because they just want the sound to be louder while not understanding how amplification works (can you blame them?). Anyway there is my rant for the day.

I really like the Asus STX II, for the money however, I do wish I would have spent more time looking at external DACs. I'm not knocking the STXII however, it sounds amazing.
