Which one?

Pioneer VSX-516 base model receiver, Paradigm Atom (V3 or V4?) speakers, base model Velodyne VX-10 or something. Sun is really poorly placed and don't hear it much but I can tell when it's not on. All still kicking like 9 years later.

... they're still sitting in the living room never hooked up yet.

...still sitting in the living room not yet set up.

...that's never been hooked up.

Dafuq, bro?

Speaker cord is a bitch to deal with. I took hours just to strip two damn wires without accidentally cutting any copper strands. No idea why pre-cut and terminated speaker cord was so hard to find back then.

Aww... why didn't you opt for the overpriced, $200/each speaker stands?

On a different note: I found 12 gauge pre-terminated speaker cables on Amazon. Would totally masturbate to that. I have poverty 16 gauge, twisted with no terminater.

I've got a seriously old Altec Lansing 4.1 setup that, after reading this thread and getting mildly aroused, I've decided is time to upgrade. Bookshelf looks the way to go... anyone got a good parts list for something that would sound sweet? I'm not an audiophile and don't need top of the line equipment. I already use a xonar (dg I think?).

What's your budget? The JBL 300 series are well-liked at avsforum.com and are powered speakers so you wouldn't need a receiver:

Congrats on the setup but don't think for a second that the subwoofer + D class amp crammed into that enclosure can outperform any home theater receiver in clarify or loudness. Toss in some good speakers as well and there is no contest.

The problem with good speakers now is that I have really close neighbors. I would blast some music with my speakers but it would get noise complaints immediately. Damn city living.

Not sure I mentioned that? :|

I have an early-90s Sony DPL receiver driving a pair of late 70s Akai 3-way towers.

I love the way it sounds. Press the "Dynamic Bass Feed Back" button and things start falling off shelves. At "2" on the Sony's volume knob.

Yeah, I saw those in the HT Thread. You couldn't get the edges and seams to stain more uniformly?

i "could" have however, 2 reasons it looks like that
1) glue seepage hard to fix
2) on one of them i had to sand/router it flush, and to do that i went right through the outer layer of ply

Good sound is something that really makes a difference. Now start saving for a good 2.1 setup. :p
