The change was from Repubs controlling the scamming of US taxpayers to the Dems controlling the scamming of US taxpayers.

How hard have you looked?

And by the way, are you letting some self-hate out here? :p

I wanted to be part of the outrage, and no, I don't see one who over-payed. If I were in politics I'd have ten accountants checking my taxes and publish them for people to critique. You know perfectly well that any mistake in underpayment if found by others will kill you if you are in public life. I smell indifference and greed. Screw them. They had a deep obligation to be clean on the tax thing just like that filthy Clinton had no business getting a blow job from a 21 year old as President of the United States. All this rage the country if feeling is the fault of three people who fucked up. One is in and two, supposedly the best for the job they were chosen for, lost because they were careless or dishonest. We will never know, but their services are ruined. People who should have been responsible let us down. Stupid assholes.

It's four people who fucked up. Obama is part of this mess.

It's all of us who fucked up, in my opinion, with out indifference, our personal greed, our lack of education and political awareness. We elected the morons who have created the tax code system we have and have allowed the lobbyists to create. We have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Ask yourself, CPA, where you would be if taxes were really simple and pretty much impossible to mess up.

The tax code is so darn difficult that not a single democrat can figure it out.

You know what, I'm getting really tired of folks asking me this question. I have been adamant that I oppose the tax structure in it's form. I abhor the thought of taxing productivity rather than spend. I vastly prefer a simplified federal sales tax structure.

And for those who are ignorant, the vast majority of CPAs and accountants don't have anything to do with taxes. There are plenty of other areas that require the knowledge of a CPA.

You apologists are so funny. What geithner and daschle did was not an "honest" mistake. It was egregious. There is no way that geithner "thought" he didn't owe self-employment tax. If you are 1099'd you have to pay SE tax. Not only that the UN tells them that. Not only that turbotax tells you that. Not only that, the simple step down on the tax form will lead you to pay SE tax. He PURPOSEFULLY left it out.

You know this how?.He said it was an honest mistake, can you prove that it wasn't? If it was so evident that it wasn't how come he was confirmed by not only Democrat Senators but by Republicans too?

I won't ask you again because now I know the answer. I guess I was not the first to ask. I guess certain questions spring naturally out of the context one sees, no? Thought is just associations strung together and can be quite autonomic. If you get a question over and over that too can trigger an autonomic response. ;)

1) UN tells their payees you have to pay SE tax
2) Turbo Tax auto filled SE tax line when he entered 1099 info
3) The tax form itself tells you

Every 1099 receipient when they file their taxes goes through the temptation of not paying the SE tax.

Not to nit pick, but Geithner worked for IMF, not UN.

SO according to you he purposely didn't pay taxes and that it was no mistake. Isn't that against the law and punishable by doing jail time so that makes him an alleged felon, If that's the case why was he confirmed not only by Democrats but by Republicans too? Seems to me that at least the opposition party would deny confirming a felon if they themselves were honest and doing their job. The fact that they did confirm him makes your argument suspect.

He's correct. If you get a 1099 MISC, you're supposed to pick up self-employment tax. It's not some buried rule, it's right on the forms what to do.

So you've got someone who is either not capable of following instructions, or trying to get away with something.

This is the epitome of liberal thinking.... what is the burden of proof of an "honest mistake"?

No longer is the question weather he cheated or didn't cheat but it changes to his mindset and intent.

You shouldn't have any trouble understanding this. Take a look at Bush and Iraq. After an exhaustive analysis of Iraq's huge WMD arsenal, just an honest mistake, Bush made the equally brilliant decision to invade.

The irony of course is the fact that this is gonna all screw over the younger generation and not the older people. Maybe I'm just being some Republican mouthpiece here, but I am a middle class person born to middle class people and I currently work 70 hours a week (7x10s), and to have the damn government take MY hard earned money and give it to a bunch of spoiled idiots who are too lazy to hold down a job is not my idea of how a goverment should work. We should ENCOURAE hard work, not punish it.

Hard work has its rewards, but I disagree about the entitlement mentality of those less fortunate. Many of them do work very hard, yet have little to show for it not because of irresponsibility, but because the deck is stacked against them. The only entitlement mentality right now that is sending this country in the shithole is the entitlement mentality of the wealthy. They think that they deserve their huge salaries/benefits/perks without putting in near as much hard work. The difference is that they have invented a framework to justify it - namely trickle down economics. They use phrases and concepts that miss reality like double taxation on dividends or use biased wordplay such as "death tax" for the estate tax to try and get the public on their sides. This country has shifted to rewarding investment instead of rewarding labor, so now we are stuck in a position to where those that do work hard get royally screwed. That is what needs to change.
