I wanted to be part of the outrage, and no, I don't see one who over-payed.

You aren't looking very hard beacuse you want another excuse to be outraged, eh?

Leon Panetta seems to be a perfect guy! It seems he didn't pay his taxes either!

See that word 'seems'? That's the problem. You may give these folk a pass and I may, on a good day, but why the hell do we have to, and what about all the Republican scum you see in this thread looking for any beloved patriot in Obama's armor. When you deal with assholes like these you stay lily white or you get creamed. You don't give swine an inch. And look at Bamacre. He's running a script that tells him that all democrats and republicans are scum. Every time some jackass fails to pay his taxes folk like that jump for joy. I told you so, I told you so. These people have responsibility not to turn the American people into gloating swine. To those to whom so much is given, much is asked.

TheSnowman: You aren't looking very hard because you want another excuse to be outraged, eh?

M: No, I am going with outrage as a thread theme.

TS: How so? Historically I don't see any reason one would have suspected as much.

M: It a big surprise these folk owe taxes and are now in shit?

TS: Based soley on smell?

M: That's my feeling. I trust them and with reason.

TS: I get the impression you lack a reasonable understanding of what a giant mess our tax code is, as if you did I'm guessing you'd agree with me that your rage would be better directed at that.

M: These folk were hoist by their own petard in the court of public opinion, one I share. Rational crap like you offer here I'm fully aware of. It makes no difference because they were judged and shot in the knee caps. They will never walk again. They will always be the folk who fucked up on their taxes. They will always be presumed guilty and never be able to prove they are innocent because only they know what really happened and we the public will make up our own mind. Because of that simple fact, they had to be shot. We don't have to accept tax cheats as our employees. We can presume them guilty because they aren't on trial in a court of law. We are judge jury and executioner. If you want to be employed in the service of the people, pay your fucking taxes.

TS: Well that was obviously intentional. (Clinton)

M: Oh, come on, it was just a momentary lapse in judgment in an otherwise saintly life. :)

TS: Looks more like scapegoating to me.

M: It looks exactly like who you are. You are charitable and I am vicious. I don't tolerate the slightest hint or appearance of possible corruption in those who I want serving me at my expense. I demand unimpeachable ethical behavior. These assholes write the tax laws and then claim they are too difficult to properly pay what they owe. Double fuck them.

Funny how they NEVER over pay. I already know people in this class are able to shield a ton of income from levy the only problem is, to me, it shows a total disregard for the law they are charged to make or at best an incompetence whereby they should not be making laws.

The fate of the human race depends on our ethical evolution. The human race created God in its image, the highest ideals we can aspire to that we can conceive. The ideals we create we create because they come from our soul. We are God waiting to happen. God doesn't cheat on his taxes. If you fuck up on your taxes even by mistake you let everybody down but with our survival at stake. So even if it's a mistake, you have to be swept away. Appearances matter and Obama promised a higher standard. There are places where the rubber meets the road. Truth is a hard taskmaster.

And I am normal. It's everybody else that's nuts.

well, that is what makes them perfect to make the laws as they are above them.

seriously, somebody, not the irs should, some 3rd party forensic accountant should audit the top levels of the gov and see who really is honest, but that will never happen as i think the outcome would be the beginning some bad things.....

looks like the sheeple are waking up and not jumping off the cliff or drinking the kool-aid like those in front of them. about time....if they have the tenacity to keep w/ it.

don't forget, the "bailout", i mean "stimulus" is ~$900B before interest, w/ interest it is ~$1.3T or so and counting....i am sure it will grow more before it is signed.

also, why does it need to be so rushed? i understand the issues but i take more time and consideration if i make a $1K purchase than these people are w/ this $1T amount. why does bho need it to be done at a set date? yes, rush it, but rush it and make it work, not just rush to waste $$ which it seems like what they are doing, just spending to spend.

The problem is that its only the old people like this lady who want to be financially responsible, and all the young people have a damn entitlement attitude like they are somehow owed so muhc just for being born in this country. The irony of course is the fact that this is gonna all screw over the younger generation and not the older people. Maybe I'm just being some Republican mouthpiece here, but I am a middle class person born to middle class people and I currently work 70 hours a week (7x10s), and to have the damn government take MY hard earned money and give it to a bunch of spoiled idiots who are too lazy to hold down a job is not my idea of how a goverment should work. We should ENCOURAE hard work, not punish it.

It is unreasonable the standards they are held to, particularly in the case of the lady over her $996 (?) tax bill. I am positive that most people's tax returns are not perfect one way or the other.

Well in Daschles case he knew of the delinquent tax he owed and didn't bother to pay it until after he was nominated for the Cabinet position. There's unreasonable standards then there's arrogance as in Daschles case.

I can accept a small (presumably) honest mistake, but most of the time it's the hubris of those with power that they are above those silly rules that the commoners must follow. It has nothing to do with political parties or affiliation it's a disease that comes with wealth and power. Many can resist it, but many can not.

No, this is what happens when the worst approval rated House and Senate in US history gets a Presidential Administration that backs their every play. It is what happens when you have an entire federal government structure whose first allegiance is not to the people whom they serve.

Let's see here. Congress and the Senate makes around 174K a year. It's true that retirement and medical benefits are out of this world. BUT, we have multi-millionaires fighting to get the jobs. Can we guess why? Are they just concerned citizens wanting to serve the public? Or pilfer the public?

Yes, and then like criminals they justify to themselves why they are doing nothing wrong when the truth is that they are just not getting caught or they are abusing an unintentional loophole in the system.

OP, exactly what would you have Obama say? Since you seem to think he is "being too quiet"

Well as soon as you find out somebody is a tax cheat you don't make them the secretary of the treasury and in charge of the IRS.

That would be like putting Oprah in charge of Jenny Craig.
Or you in charge of a Day Care.

Or you in charge of a liquor store.

True enough, but we're trying our damnedest to reach that point. If this depression doesn't do it, the bubble that cushioned our fall will be guaranteed to do it. Next time it pops will be the last time.

- Ron Paul, 1982.

What's your point Captain Help Desk? We've been riding one bubble to the next since then, and we've just about run out of bubbles.
