My cousin-in-law just got the following e-mail regarding a CL listing:

Hi,

saw the Advert you posted on c-list titled - "Little Tikes tool bench
- $30" and I'm very interested in purchasing this however I am not too
confident if it's the same type that my cousin is after. Naturally I
want to make certain before I commit myself to purchasing it. Anyways
here is a video shot that I been able to copy from my boy's computer
VID1 or try VID2. Can you please confirm its the similar type and
answer back to me Shortly. Im willing to pay a little more than what
your asking for as long the it meets the video description and you can
reserve it for me.

Kind
Regards
Julie.

I think it is safe to open the videos, right? - LOL.

He told me he got FIVE of these from different addresses, different names and with similar, but not identical, wording.

Technically, yes.

Nah, he isn't. Advertisements are invitations to make an offer, not an offer themselves. I think I recall that from the MBE last year.

I suppose there is the question of whether a craigslist ad is an advertisement or not.

It depends on how you look at Craig's List listings and, to some extent, the wording of the listing.

In any event, good luck enforcing any CL deal before money actually changes hands.

Bahhh, I want this in the form of a multiple choice question. 🙂

I can't do CL. I know a few people who have bought and sold cell phones there, mostly guys that like to upgrade every 6 mos. Seems like the effort to find a legit deal is just too high.

I haven't gotten screwed on Ebay yet, but I'm sure that will eventually happen too.

Because of this thread I'm going to conduct all of my transactions at Western Bagel so the cops will be close by just in case.

I don't do much business on CL but I have bought and sold a few things. If I'm buying something I'll meet in a public place during the day. You just gotta be careful and look out for warning signs. I think most people are good normal people though just looking to buy/sell things ethically and without incident.

I am hating CL right now. I put up a couple of things and this morning I had six emails.
3 from someone wanting me to click a link to read about how much Obama sucks and 3 wanting me to open a video to see if my item was the same as the one in the video.

Heh, I have some pine trees that have sprouted in my field. A couple are 3-4 years old & 6 feet tall. I tossed an ad on craigslist offering them for sale - you dig. Sold! :>)
I was just going to bulldoze them down. I hate pines.

Craigslist diamond ad leads to deadly home invasion, police say

This is why no one comes to my home and I always meet in a public place. I have, on a rare occasion, gone to other people's homes to buy things, but, no more.

For me it depends on the area I'm asked to go to, I bought a nice Weber grill that was located inside a gated community, guys wife just wanted a newer model so I got a great deal for $100. same story with my wife's "20 CRT monitor, guy just wanted to sell after he upgraded to LCD, got it for $25, also in a nicer neighborhood. Now if someone want's me to come to a crappy area I might decline..
