There is a single malt Islay whisky that is not like any other whisky, it's exquisite in its raw taste, don't shot it, sip it, you'll either love it or hate it, most people really hate it.

Laphroaig, the nectar of the Celtic gods.

Heh, I missed that post. One of my co-workers goads me into drinking Jameson all of the time. It's one of those whiskeys that reminds you what a miserable human being you really are. ;)

Yes, there are very few middling opinions on Laphroig.

To expand further on JohnOfSheffield's info, many Scotches (particularly those from Islay) have a peaty/smoky taste... Laphroig takes that and turns it up to eleven.

I am a scotch man, but..

On a recent camping trip we had Maker's and JD. Straight up, no camparison, Maker's is clearly superior. How does this compare with other (better) bourbons? Better than Gentleman Jack? Woodford Reserve(sp)?

I suggest huffing glue or gasoline. definately a departure from booze :)

What does bourbon taste like? I enjoy the taste of dark rum. Is it like that?

it kinda tastes like fire

I do shots of 151. Is it worse than that?

bourbon rocks; way better than 151. pick up a bottle of Maker's Mark and drink straight or mix with Ginger Ale = yummy.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed is currently my favorite hard liquor. It's a high-quality uncut bourbon with a smoothness more like single-malt Scotch. Really really good stuff, and not excessively expensive.

I also like Bowmore (tons of varieties), Taliskar, and Skye (not an Islay, but the only malt to come from the island of Skye = tits)

Bowmore is more of the piss of the gods and Taliskar and Skye in comparison to Laphroaig or even the Glen's?

Really? NO!

Well seeing as you are a nancy boy, you'll hate it, any man who would put Macallan above any of the Glens wont be a real man in this lifetime.

It's not the taste per se, it's the TASTE for pure unadulterated whisky and Macellan doesn't even get to go into the same room as the Glens, he's just not a real whisky.

It would be like letting a monkey into the theater.

I still stand by Laphroaig though, i always will but i'd take a Glen before a Tequila of any sort and i'd take that before any Vodka and i'd take that before a Macallan... I really really hate vodka.

Thank you. The Glenlivet >> Glenfiddich, although I have only had their 12 yr-olds.

Looking forward to trying Laphroaig someday. The Glenlivet is my total favorite right now. Most nights I'm too cheap and drink Dewars white label tho.

You haven't had the good Bowmore. Only the 17+ Laphroig is in a different category.
Bowmore has a 75 year.
Glens my ass. in one post you bash the Highlands, then you're all gay for them? please...:p

Son, the laphroaig of any eyar bets the daylights off of any Bowmore, it's just a fake single, it's not from any of the original houses, it can be old as fuck but it still sucks arse compatred to any Laphroaig.

I don't have a problem with the Highlands, look up one post where i stated that i did, you'll find NADA dipshit, i never said anything about it but my preference is and will always be Laphroaig. If one were so inclined to enjoy the mellow schotches, the Glens are fine too.

You can now go suck a teet because your advice is worthless.

And Bowmore is a wannabee single malt that really does suck, it tries hard but has the taste of sheeps arses.
