Being made from molasses, rum is sweet, with dark rum comparable to brown sugar. Bourbon OTOH is smoky like a real Kentucky barbecue.

Evan Williams is crap. Jim Beams is acceptable for mixing. JD is pretty good but not actually a bourbon, although Tennessee sour mash is close enough for most. Makers Mark, Wild Turkey, and Bulleit are among my favs, although there are many brands out there.

I'm not quite reading that... is that a kind of booze?

OP, are you looking just to drink something straight/on the rocks?

how about some Knob Creek (bourbon)? i have a friend who drinks that and he says it warms him up nicely. :)

I don't really think the increased price of Knob Creek over Jack Daniels is justified.

Thats strange. Knob is cheaper here than JD. More expensive than Jim, but you can definately tell the difference between Knob and Jim.

Usually Knob or Crown for us.

You need to try drinking in different places. Different scenery makes alcohol taste different :)

Yes, but only if it's a decent grade and good cognac is fairly expensive. Before buying a bottle you may want to try a glass of Remy Martin or Courvoisier at a restaurant or bar and make sure it's at least a VSOP grade. XO grade is awesomely smooth but will run you well over 100 bucks for a bottle.

Try a couple of fingers of Jameson Irish Whiskey without ice or water. If you really want the Irish experience, chase with a pint of Guinness Stout. Irish Times in WADC FTW!

Evan Williams is actually pretty decent.
