AFAIK ATI has not publicly announced 5xx series products so disappointment ain't really warranted from an end-user perspective (as opposed to investor). Allowing oneself to succumb to hype and speculation is not their fault. Eschewing pre-announcing and "paper launching" remains preferable.

The noise is annoying when doing other stuff, and since I live in a one room apartment it's the only solution. Specially if it's on the night over.

I'm still waiting to read what happens when a hose comes loose on a watercooled system and expels fluid all over the place.

Personally I don't see the point of more expensive memory.

Havn't we seen that because of AMD's memory control arch. that the difference between top end plat. memory and value memory just isn't worth the price?

Links if you think I'm wrong...

I was giving ATi some time to launch something to compete with the G70, now I've done with waiting. I could have chose to get the G70 without waiting, but I thought ATi should have a chance of launching something that could compete. I just got the best I could at the moment which was the G70. The only thing I'm disappointed is that there's no product to compete with it, that it wins too easy.

I can dig it. Word. Indeed yes, by jove.

But even the most optimistic scuttlebutt from two months ago did not suggest August availability.

after four dfi nf4 lan partys, all great, i figured i'd give the infinity ultra a try. its going back when a new nf4d comes in (should monarch ever ship it :( )

seriously, i wouldn't get the infinity. it seems to overclock ok but be prepared to change out the chipset fan. its unbearably loud and whiney and can't be sped up or down in windows. i'm not even sure you can do it in bios.

AG at dfi.street is still waiting on word from taiwan as to what half the bios options even mean or do, lol.

if you really really need the 3 pci slots then buy a new chipset fan before you even bother installing. or get a different board.

I'm going to use watercooling on the chipset so that's not a problem :)

But apperently the X2 are still not widely in stock over here, so ATi get a 2nd chance until late september. Maybe that's for the better anyways :p

remember ATI started off this trend of high power cards with the 9700. they still make cards as good of quality as Nvidia. just because they are doing poorly in this quarter doesn't mean much. nvidia had its down moments for 2 years before the geforce 6 series

keep the fanboyish comments down

that true.

Did you also consider the Zalman external water cooling tower?
(Don't know how quiet it is?)
Also: silentPC.com recently had a review of PSU's, and found that most "up to date" systems only require ~400 (or less) Watt PSU's. Especially since: the 7800GTX video card requires less Watts to run (by about one-half) than previous model 6800GT or Radeon X800 cards.
So a Seasonic S12-530 may well be sufficient.
Motherboard: only the DFI Lanparty or Abit AN8's include extra memory voltage options, as compared with any other Socket 939 motherboard brands.

ya, i swear everyone in these forums are nVidia fanboys.

edit: Hey, cancel the order and get the free mobo with graphics card deal the mobo is actually good. its the same thing as the jetway sli check out AnandTech review.

Throughout both ATI and Nvidias product history, Nvidia has made a lot more bad cards than ATI. MX anyone? FX anyone? And GOD, how many Geforce 4 cards were there? 420, 440, I lost count. Cut ATI some slack.

Both ati and nvidia have had there down times, it just so happens ati has hit a slump....sorta. I'm still using my trusty 9800 pro, and I can run BF2 and all my games, so i really don't see the point in a upgrade untill ati hits the mark with a sick new card. *GO ATI!*

I lost my patience too. I had a Radeon AIW Radeon. That was friggn pimp. I've loved ATI all along and yes I am a fanboy.

Still, I ordered a 7800GT. When I buy products, I will weigh what is good for me at tha tmoment and for the long run. If that means waiting 3 months for an X1800 Pro, then I have to weigh whether it will be worth it. I gambled and here we are. The wait wouldn't have been worth it. Ch-ching!

I won't be upgrading for probably 2 - 3 years, so I'll just wait till then if ATI is still alive.... Oh this is my first NV card =)

The zalman is a bit more expensive and the cooling efficiency is not as good.
I did consider using a lower PSU, but I don't want to buy another PSU for a good amount of time so I'll just stick with this.
I'm not really planning to do much overclock on the memory, since it's still 2x1Gb sticks that are not rated for that high an overclock. But the infiinty has a better palcement for the chipset for water cooling, and has 3 PCI slots compared to the Lanparty.

ok this is how it goes back in nvidia's 5 series and lower they were crap compared to nvidia than nvidia recently released the 6 and 7 series which are awsome cards you have to give them credit but they still dont understand that they still need to fix alot of things. nvidia cards run too hot and are voltage hogs they are less efficent than ati cards. also i keep seeing that nvidia is making there cards bigger and biggger ex. http://www.sux2b.us/stuff/6800GT%20001.jpg

Nvidia is getting better though the 7 series takes less power than the 6800gt and is more efficent just not enough.

hehe, I have an old regular dark greay Chieftech case, but it's stuffed with noise isolating plates, so I don't want to get a new. So the exterior look is not that *bling*, and with watercooling the airflow is not that important. And for some reason I like my stuff to look discrete, and it's the same color as my NAD setup.
