I love Florida...lived here my whole life, no reason to leave(unless for the Virgin Islands or something like that 🙂

California. No weather. Lots of crazy people. Lots of traffic.

I rode my bicycle most of the way around the country, leaving from Michigan in the middle of September.

Twice, when I was camping, I awoke to find frost. This occurred once in Florida and once in California. Go figure...

My Mom is from Michigan and I've spent no small amount of time there. But let's not turn this into a bash Michigan thread. 😉

To answer your question though I've seen icicles hanging off the bushes of a neighbor's lawn from his sprinklers in the early morning hours. Of course that's only happened once in the 19 years I've lived here. It does get down in the mid 30s at night during the winter.

I would not mind living in a hot place. While I find anything above +25 too hot, think I'd get used to it fast. I'm sick of winter! (the fact that it's spring on the calandar means nothing here)

Some areas of Cali are about the best blend of paradise and civilization that we have in the states, no doubt. The rest is completely mediocre and not worth the added trouble of living there. If you're not within a very easy walking/driving distance from the ocean, why bother?

San Diego is the best place to be in Cali, imo.

I live in North County San Diego about 5 miles from the ocean.

Inland is just desert and wasteland except for Palm Springs and, of course, the local mountains which are also beautiful.

It was very beautiful today, I live right around where Jules does, a bit more south, but yeah, it was great. I went outside, did a little bathing the suns pretty warm rays, and now am doing my geology. --_--

Personally I find anything below 25 to be pretty annoying, way too much ice and crap.

I dunno, man. I live in Virginia, and even in the part of VA that has "high" taxes, it doesn't hold a candle to what I'd have to part with in CA. I'll put it to you this way: On a per-acre basis, the area I'm in is probably on par with some of the nicer areas of San Diego County. However, I pay about 0.85% on my property taxes. HOAs aren't prevalent, either.

No local income tax, and the state rate is 5.75% for anything over 17k. Wages are pretty much on par, although our job market here is faring a ton better.

From a financial perspective, we'd have to cut way back on our standard of living. But it definitely is paradise. That's why we visit my fiancee's folks as much as possible, especially since they got the new place up near Carlsbad a few blocks from the beach 🙂

You're probably right, though, now that I think about it, it's still probably worth it.
