i know this is probably an old debate - but im throwing down my gauntlet - mcdonalds coffee>starbucks

I had a large (i think its grande - or venti or something) starbucks with 4 splendas and cream (like my coffee sweet)

then I had a large mcdonalds with 4 splendas and cream.


MCD won by a mile. SBUX tastes burnt.

I don't drink coffee a lot but I like my coffee black. I still think starbuck's coffee tastes better than McDonald's, but of course that's just my two cents.

You also should have a poll.
 
My home brewed can't be beat. If you go to either Starbucks of McDonalds, you truly are pathetic.
 
I can't drink Upchuck's coffee.(or should it be 4-bux?) It's far too acid for my taste and stomach. The newer Mickey-D's coffee is MUCH better. Of course, so is the coffee I make at home...😛
 
I make my coffee from Starbucks' Caffe Verona blend at home from beans, with 2 raw sugars and some 2% milk in a pint mug. Tasty.

The Serena organic, Sumatra, and House blends are also good.

I almost never go to their stores and pay $5 for a mocha though. I'd rather send the $100+ a month off to INGDirect or my brokerage account instead.
 
If you like sweet coffee, you should buy a can of iced coffee then heat that up. Iced coffee is 50%+ sugar.
 
My coffee is so delicious that I have impoverished grad students waiting in a line around the corner to blow me for a cup of it. Starbucks should aspire to make coffee that good 😛

I've never had the McDonald's coffee, but I think Starbucks coffee just tastes awful. It's easy to screw up coffee though, so I guess YMMV?
 
Unless they changed something since last summer, McDonald's coffee has to be the worst I've ever had... At least it came with a McMuffin.
 
McD's tasted watery to me. I'm not about spending $5 for a cup of coffee, so I don't go to Starbucks. Yes, I know you limited yourself to just the two, but for $10, I picked up a 1 cup coffee maker. (Brews a 20oz cup of coffee). I don't skimp on the cost of the coffee beans. All I need to do is fill my cup with water, and dump it into the back of the coffee maker. I keep it in my classroom and have an outstanding cup of coffee every morning - cheaper per cup than I could get from either place, and without the inconvenience of waiting at a drive thru for 2 minutes.

Not to say starbucks is cheap but I think their regular coffee in a large size is still under two bucks. They do sell beverages that after tax can hit 5 bucks, but you're ordering like a large blended somethingsomething blahblah at that point.

I like tea but if I was a coffee drinker and needed to have my fix I would do it the way you do it DrPizza. A little bit of work goes a long way to money saved and quality.
 
For those that seem to like McD's coffee, can you explain why? I think a lot of it is just because people will rage against trends like

I've tried McD's coffee several times since they supposedly improved, and it still tastes like swill to me. The measure of a good cup of coffee is quite a number of things, but ultimately the end result are oils (I'm referring to this in the general sense, so let's not get pedantic on whether they're truly oils, etc.) in your cup, and the lack of such oils is an indication of a number of things:

1) Stale beans/grinds
2) Overroasting; the oils are essentially roasted out of the bean. Starbucks likes to do this.
3) Improper method (temperature, filter, water, etc.)

Everytime I've had McD's, it's suffered from all of these issues. I'm guessing most people find it so agreeable because there's simply not much there to disagree with. In contrast, Dunkin Donuts has, in my experience, far better coffee where the presence of oils are obvious in the aroma and flavor. Of course, a good coffee shop would be better, but those are hard to come by these days.

So, for me:

Independent coffee shop (generally) > Dunkin Donuts > Starbucks > McD's. When it comes to espresso, all bets are off.
