I don't drink the plain coffee at Starbucks, but I tried it at McDonald's today. This was my first time drinking it since they "improved" it. It was weak, tasted fairly close to what I imagine crap tastes like, and was not even close to being hot enough. I tried it plain, no cream or sweetener, as that is how I drink restaurant coffee.

I liked McDonald's coffee well enough when they brewed Seattle's Best, but whatever this new "Premium Roast" stuff is does not live up to that.

I would argue you are not even really drinking coffee once you've put that much crap in it.

Anyway, I like Starbuck's espresso, but hate their drip. There are a couple of local places that do it better than anyone though, so I tend to stick with those.

It's not like it's the same at every location. If you think that, you are an idiot.

That said, I don't go to starbucks anymore, there are way too many other options around here to choose a major chain. Cherry St. FTW!

I'm not picky; I drink it black and think both are fine. As well as coffee from pretty much anywhere, including the carts on the street -- as long as it isn't watered down as it often is, I'm looking at you guy with a cart outside New York County Courthouse!

That said, considering I'd have to go into a McDonald's to get McDonald's coffee, Starbucks wins. I prefer not to come out coated in a sheen of grease and feeling like I lost 50 IQ points conversing with the staff, all the while fending off screaming children running wild through the restaurant while waiting behind a homeless guy counting out change for his breakfast.

No. They're over-roasted garbage.

I agree that starbucks is pretty acidic, but compared to mcdonalds? no contest... i think the only thing that changed when mcdonalds changed to "premium" coffee is that they changed the cup and gave it an annoying ad campaign...

I like pretty much all coffee. I drink it black. I like it strong. My ideal cup of coffee is a medium or dark roast Sumatra.
Personally, I think McDonalds coffee is great. It is a bit weaker/mellower than ideal, but it's very good, and not at all bitter since they've switched to Arabica.
I also like Starbucks coffee quite a bit. It does have a hint of a "burnt" taste to it, but I actually prefer it that way.
That said, between the two, I'll drink both and enjoy!
