I knew California was as bad as the Soviet Union

How is that unreasonable?
And what does cats have to do with the soviets?
This limitation is most common.
In my neck of the woods, not only do they limit the number of dogs and cats, but they take into account the size and weight of the critters allowed in the household.
Example, you can have three dogs, or four dogs if their combined weight falls below a set standard.
So you could have three fat dogs, or four skinny furry friends.
Too bad the same does not apply to ..... children.
Nothing more nauseating than a family of five fatties waddling down the candy isle at wal-Mart. 😉

that is unreasonable, having 4 cats is not crazy already.

Especially if you take a friend's cat just for the holidays or stuff like that.

Same goes for dogs. Although there should be a max limit on how many dogs you can be in public with at the same time, as they have to be under control.

Must be them conservative bleeding hearts handing out freebies for every kid they have.🙄

I'd guess its about the cats hunting. Not defending that position

Hunting implies they eat it or do something useful with the wildlife.

From my existence they mostly just murder wildlife for fun.

Not a terrible law of the area is densely populated and wildlife is under pressure.

Illegal in the Peoples Republic of California?

I don't think a cat is capable of murder. I don't think any animal is capable of murder other than Humans. You are correct house cats do kill more wildlife than we all realize. I saw an animal planet show that tracked a bunch of house cats with cameras, GPS and people just watching from a distance. I don't remember the numbers but it was amazing how many critters cats killed every week.

The killing of wildlife by pet cats (not talking about abandoned cats here) is a separate issue and simply requiring people to keep their cats indoors or leashed (yes, it can be done) would solve that problem.

Damn, another that did not bother to read the article yet had to make an asinine comment.

Here, let me help:

The Los Angeles City Council wants to keep cats out of shelters and in order to do so is considering changing city code to raise the household limit on feline friends from three to five.

It's literally the first sentence in the article. LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL. So when does LA pass laws for the state of California?

Personally I wouldn't own a pet due to their flea bag appeal but I fully support others who wish to have them.

With that said, I have to ask where this ends. If the owner of 5-6 cats is told they must get rid of one in order to stay under the arbitrary 'limit' imposed by whatever 'recognized authority', what are the lengths this 'authority' would go in order to maintain compliance? Up to and including stealing the pet? Putting them to sleep if another home is not found?

Multiple cat owners expect to use their neighbors property as a cat crap box. Spreading this all over the neighborhood.

Later on, an infected cat will shed these oocytes in its feces — where, yes, you can then pick up the parasite from your cat's litterbox. An infection with Toxo is called Toxoplasmosis, and once it's in the body, it stays there. After an oocyst enters the body of a non-cat, it opens up and allows the Toxo zygotes to spill out, where they develop into a mobile, rapidly dividing life stage. Once they get into the blood stream, they are carried around to the body's organs, including the brain.

They can ban cats from going out of the house^^

also this isn't a serious problem anywhere else, if the semi-feral cat populations are under control.

Besides, if your cat has kitten, you're violating the law. That shows it's a retarded law, completely detached from reality.

Toxoplasmosis is irrelevant unless you've never caught it and get pregnant. And even then you have to stop eating raw meat etc., you can't infect 25% of the population with cats only.

There really isn't much to worry about unless you're pregnant or immunocompromised.
